Since becoming one of the most dominant players in the league and winning two season MVPs in a row, Aaron Rodgers has been regarded as one of the greatest quarterbacks ever to play. However, the 38-year-old QB might have a different vision for his future with the Green Bay Packers in disarray.
During a recent interview, Rodgers said he’s only focused on the present season. When asked about his future plans, he revealed that one of his main factors was not wanting to be a “bum” on the field when he retires.
During an interview with Pardon My Take, Rodgers talked about his future plans. He noted that he’s approaching the end of his career and already thinking about what he wants to accomplish in life.
At 38, Rodgers considered himself an “old guy.” He also said he’s grateful for what he had and wanted to leave Green Bay in a better state than when he joined the team.
During a separate interview with Sports Illustrated, Rodgers said his retirement is getting closer each year.
“I’m living my life with a little more perspective about how special the journey has been and less about what you don’t have, what you couldn’t accomplish, what could’ve been,” Rodgers said.
One last Super Bowl before retirement
Although Rodgers is still at the peak of his career, he has already revealed that he’s not planning on playing until he’s 45 years old like Tom Brady. He’s focused on winning another Super Bowl.
In an interview with Adam Schein of Mad Dog Sports, Rodgers said that he’s focused on one goal and wants to win another Super Bowl. He said he has all the individual achievements he could have hoped for.
“I don’t say this as a cliche, I say this as heartfelt as I can,” Rodgers said. “I want to win the championship. I’ve had all the individual success I could possibly ever have dreamed of accomplishing. I’ve got four MVPs. I’m an honorary blackbelt. I’d like to win another Super Bowl.”
Currently, Rodgers is one of the most dominant players in the league and has won more individual awards than any other quarterback. However, he has yet to win another Super Bowl. A second championship would greatly enhance Rodgers’ already impressive resume.
Friction with Packers in preseason
Since the start of the 2018 season, Rodgers has not participated in any of the Green Bay Packers preseason games. Rodgers didn’t think playing in the preseason would benefit his performance in the regular season.
“I don’t see any benefit to it,” Rodgers said Tuesday. “I definitely don’t see any benefit to playing one series. If we’re going to play, we should play and play a quarter, a couple of series, two to three series. Just suiting up for four plays, to me, is a waste.”
Rodgers added that playing in the preseason has become a no-win situation for the players and the organization.
“I think it’s kind of a no-win situation to the outside of the building,” Rodgers said. “If somebody gets hurt [it’s], ‘I can’t believe they played our guys.’ But if we go out and have a stinker [it’s], ‘I can’t believe they didn’t play them.'”
Without Davante Adams, Rodgers will be without his favorite target for the 2022 season. Adams was traded to the Raiders during the off-season.
