The four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry will reportedly host the 2022 Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award, or known as ESPYS live from Los Angeles on Wednesday, July 20. The event honors the year’s top performers and performances, recognizes notable achievements, recounts unforgettable moments, and commemorates the year in sports.
The All-Star guard expressed his great honor in hosting the most prestigious event.
“I’ve had the pleasure of attending the ESPYS but never imagined I’d have the privilege of hosting this special event,” said Curry.
He stated that he hopes to host the exciting event so that the general public can recognize and celebrate the athletic accomplishments of individuals and teams.
“As someone who loves the intersection of sports and entertainment, I look forward to delivering an exciting show for the fans while we celebrate the athletes who created the top moments of the year.” Curry said.
The Warriors superstar could also take home a slew of awards. Curry and his teammates were both fully accountable for some of the game’s most iconic scenes. Curry himself is nominated for several awards, including best male athlete, best NBA player, and best record-breaking performance, in addition to hosting duties. Klay Thompson, a Warriors teammate, is nominated for best comeback athlete, and Golden State is nominated for best team.
Known for his delicate public persona, Curry labeled himself the “Petty King” during the NBA Finals and then backtracked, revealing a new side of himself that could inspire confidence in a hosting role.

Curry’s achievements and his involvement with the media industry
Curry accomplished a lot this year. He not only won the NBA championship, but he also became the first Finals player to hit 100 3-pointers, surpassing Ray Allen’s career total.
He received his first Kobe Bryant All-Star MVP award after scoring 50 points and making a career-high 16 3-pointers. After the Warriors won their seventh title and Curry’s fourth, he received the inaugural Magic Johnson Trophy as Western Conference Finals MVP and his first Bill Russell Finals MVP Award.
Curry’s brilliance appears to be recognized by his peers in the media as well.
“Steph has long been one of the brightest stars in the sports constellation, and we’re thrilled to have him share his passion for sports, his wit and his boundless talent with The ESPYS,” admired Executive Editor-At-Large ESPN Content Rob King.
King was also astounded by how the NBA Superstar has become an iconic figure wherever he goes.
” Whether shining on the court, engaging with fans on social platforms or demonstrating a commitment to communities through varied philanthropic acts, he’s a singular performer who’ll undoubtedly add luster to our celebration of some of this year’s most compelling moments.” he added.
Curry co-founded “Unanimous Media” with the goal of elevating different points of view and shedding light on important stories, with a focus on family, sports, and religious content. NBCUniversal signed its first Global Talent Partnerships agreement with Unanimous Media last year. The multi-year contract covers first-look advancement deals for scripted and unscripted TV projects with Universal Studio Group and DreamWorks Animation.
Unanimous Media is also collaborating with Steph Curry on Snap’s Portal A Level Up. Erick Peyton, co-founder of Unanimous Media, will serve as an ESPYs co-executive producer. The ESPYs are co-produced by ESPN and Full Day Productions. The show premieres live on ABC on July 20 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
