Our ATS NHL prediction for Friday night comes out of the West Coast as the Vancouver Canucks host the Pittsburgh Penguins in Sidney Crosby’s only trip to the Rain City this season. The Canucks will look to build off their first win of the season as the team ended their disastrous start to the campaign on Thursday night in Seattle, hanging onto a 5-4 lead to beat the Kraken before crossing back over the border to prep for a back to back on the schedule. Here, get our best bet for Penguins vs Canucks before the puck drops on Friday night.

Penguins vs Canucks Betting Pick
This game will be played at Rogers Arena at 10:00 PM ET on October 28, 2022.
Why Bet The Over:
✅ The Canucks will either be starting backup goaltender Spencer Martin or starting goalie Thatcher Demko on back to back nights. Both scenarios play nicely towards the Over as the ‘Nucks will either be rolling with their backup or playing a fatigued Demko, who let in four goals against the Kraken last night.
✅ Vancouver has leaked goals all season. Through eight games played, the Canucks have allowed three or more games every time they have stepped out onto the ice due to absences on defense that include their top d-man Quinn Hughes.
✅ The Pens can fill the back of the net in a hurry. Pittsburgh has enjoyed four games this season where they have scored six goals, heavy output from an offense still manned by future Hall of Famers in Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.

Pittsburgh Penguins
The Pens will gladly welcome a trip to Vancouver on Friday night and not just for the views of the Pacific Ocean. Pittsburgh’s yearly swing through Western Canada has been a disaster so far as the Pens were humbled by both Alberta teams before heading out to British Columbia.
Edmonton and Calgary handed the Pens their first two regulation losses of the season, making tonight’s game against a struggling Canucks team playing on back to back nights an important one for them to get a win out of.
Tristan Jarry is expected to make the start in goal for this Penguins vs Canucks game.
Jarry was lit up by the powerful Edmonton Oilers forward attack on Monday night, allowing six goals on 47 shots in a busy night for the Surrey, BC born goaltender. A local kid, Jarry should be pumped up and ready to face his childhood team in the Canucks after growing up in the Greater Vancouver Area.

Vancouver Canucks
After losing their first seven games of the 2022-23 season, the Canucks finally ended their long nightmare last night via their aforementioned 5-4 win over the Kraken. However, the win over the Kraken felt hollow for Canucks fans for a few reasons.
Reason #1 is the Canucks were severely outplayed by the Kraken, relying on a final 10:00 of scrambling by their defense and goaltender Thatcher Demko to hold onto the lead. The Canucks also threw away two leads in the game, including giving up a 3-2 lead less than a minute after earning the breakthrough as head coach Bruce Boudreau simply cannot get his team in a state where they can hold onto leads at the moment.
Reason #2 the Canucks first win of the year feels a bit empty is the concern around the health of forward JT Miller as the newly minted big contract holder went down in a heap in the final seconds of the win on Thursday. Miller preserved the win by blocking a heavy shot in the dying moments but spent the celebration down on the ground and limped off the ice while being helped out by his teammates. Already missing Quinn Hughes and Brock Boeser, the Canucks cannot afford to lose Miller for an extended period as they look to climb out of the hole they created for themselves during the seven game losing skid to open the season.
