Canadiens vs Islanders Betting Pick
This game will be played at Scotiabank Saddledome at 10:00 PM ET on Saturday, February 19, 2022.
Why Bet The Islanders:
✅ Frankly, this should be a “why bet against the Canadiens” chapter. Montreal is the worst team in the NHL by far. The Habs have earned only 25 points out of their first 49 games. They own the worst scoring defense in the league, allowing 3.94 goals per game. Furthermore, the Canadiens are the most inefficient team in the league. They score 2.20 goals per contest on a terrible 7.5 shooting percentage.
✅ The Islanders, on the other side, haven’t impressed either. They score 2.45 goals per game (29th in the NHL) on an 8.5 shooting percentage (26th). At least, the Islanders own the seventh-best scoring defense in the NHL, yielding 2.73 goals per game. Also, New York’s penalty-killing percentage is the tenth-best in the league (82.4%). The Islanders should dominate this game on the back of their defense.

✅ Ilya Sorokin is expected to patrol the crease for the Islanders, and the 26-year-old Russian is 15-11-5 with a solid 2.46 GAA and .921 save percentage. On the other side, Andrew Hammond will be making his season debut Sunday against the Islanders. The 34-year-old netminder hasn’t appeared in the NHL since the 2017-18 season when he started one game for Colorado. Hammond has recorded a 2.44 GAA and .908 save percentage in 11 games with the AHL Iowa this season.
Montreal Canadiens
The Canadiens are coming off a surprising 3-2 overtime victory to the St. Louis Blues last Thursday. They put an end to a horrible ten-game losing streak, recording their second victory in the last 18 games at any location.
Winger Cole Caufield was the Canadiens’ hero, scoring a couple of crucial goals. He forced overtime with only ten seconds left on the clock in the third period and nailed the game-winner 2:22 into overtime. The Habs outshot the Blues 30-27, while Sam Montembeault posted 25 stops to snap his seven-game skid.
New York Islanders
The Islanders put an end to their three-game losing streak last Thursday. They beat the Boston Bruins 4-1 as small -115 home favorites, recording their second win in the last three outings on the home ice. The Islanders are now sitting at the sixth spot of the Metropolitan Division standings with 42 points on their tally.
Matthew Barzal, Brock Nelson, and Noah Dobson all scored once and had an assist to help the Islanders beat the Bruins. Ilya Sorokin had a good day in the office as well, allowing just one goal on 27 shots.
