Key Storylines
- The Raiders are coming off a brutal stretch. Las Vegas is 2‑9 on the season, has lost five straight games, and recently dismissed their offensive coordinator amid severe offensive struggles. Their offense ranks near the bottom of the NFL in both points and total yards. With their playoff hopes already gone, the team may be more focused on building something for the future.
- The Raiders promoted Greg Olson as interim offensive coordinator. Olson is known for a more balanced, run-heavy approach. That could benefit rookie running back Ashton Jeanty and tight end Brock Bowers. It will be interesting to see if Vegas’ new scheme can help them challenge the Chargers’ defense.
- The Chargers are in comfortable playoff position at 7-4. They’ll look to tighten their grip in the AFC Wild Card race and help their chances in the AFC West race as well. Despite some offensive inconsistency and injuries at running back, the Chargers’ defense remains a strength.
Quarterback Play
For the Chargers, Justin Herbert has put together a solid season. He has 2,691 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. While not perfect, his experience and arm talent give the Chargers a clear edge over the Raiders at the most important position on the field.
Geno Smith remains under center for the Raiders. He’s amassed 2,367 passing yards with 13 TDs and 13 INTs. But he’s been sacked many times this season, and offensive line instability plus missing pieces make passing more difficult. That has contributed to Smith’s turnover problems, but his decision-making also needs to improve.

Final Thoughts
The Chargers have one of the best defenses in the NFL this season and that should help them to take care of business at home in this game. Expect pressure on Geno Smith to result in more turnovers and for the Chargers to cover the number as a big favorite.
