Tuesday night’s ATS NHL betting picks featured game is between two surprise teams in the visiting New Jersey Devils and host Montreal Canadiens. New Jersey has enjoyed the most success of the two, leading the Metropolitan Division with two games in hand on the next closest team with an eye-popping 12-3 record nobody expected at the start of the season. Here, we break down Devils vs Canadiens on the ice.
Meanwhile, Montreal are surprising everyone by simply not being the worst team in the Atlantic Division. It was looking like the Habs would live up to expectations and spend the season tanking for NHL Draft lottery odds before the team went on a three game winning streak they will look to continue against the red hot Devils.
With New Jersey on a nine game run and the Habs on a three game streak, someone has to see their unbeaten run come to an end in what will be an exciting early season game. Oddsmakers expect the Devils to take care of business, pricing the road team as -185 favorites opposed to Montreal’s +165 price. The total is set at 6.5 goals for Tuesday night’s contest.
Devils vs Canadiens Betting Pick
This game will be played at the Bell Centre at 7:00 PM ET on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.
Why Bet The Canadiens:
✅ New Jersey is dealing with a goaltending crisis at the moment. The first three goalies on the Devils depth chart are all hurt at the moment, putting their win streak in the hands of their fourth string rookie or a returning Vitek Vanecek from injury.
✅ The Canadiens have the offensive firepower to exploit the Devils goaltending situation. Head coach Martin St. Louis has the Habs playing their best offensive hockey in years, finally averaging over three goals per game.
✅ Montreal has been red hot in their last three games, scoring 13 goals during their win streak.

New Jersey Devils
Former Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff is earning apologies from Devils fans and the media for questioning whether he should even be the team’s head coach now that his team are the toast of the league. The Devils are amongst a small handful of teams on a heater to start the first quarter of the regular season and have a chance to extend their win streak to double digits with a win in Montreal.
The Devils early success is impressive considering how poorly things went last season. New Jersey finished 13th in the Eastern Conference last year, 37 points out of a playoff spot and now it looks like they will make the playoffs this season barring a meltdown back to last year’s form.
Ruff has the Devils playing great hockey by coaching a team that is scoring a lot more than any successful team of his past. Once known for defensive principles during his best days in Buffalo, the Devils are scoring as much as anybody at the moment. New Jersey ranks seventh in the league in scoring with 3.67 goals per game. Jesper Bratt is leading the way with 19 points while Nico Hischier leads the team with eight goals and has 17 points of his own.
New Jersey will hope Vitek Vanecek can make the start in goal. Listed as day to day, the Devils expect Vanecek to start to avoid having to use unproven rookie Akria Schmid. Vanecek is having a great season for the Devils with a .909 save percentage but is coming back from an injury and could be a bit off on Tuesday night.
Montreal Canadiens
The Habs success has come entirely from finding the back of the net this season as their team is predicated on scoring goals. Anything other than that has been a challenge for head coach Martin St. Louis’ club as without stalwarts and future Hall of Famers in defenseman Shea Weber and goaltender Carey Price, the Habs are struggling to play sound defensive hockey.
Good news for Habs fans is that the offense is humming to make up for their defensive difficulties. Youthful gunners Nick Suzuki, Cole Caulfield and offseason acquisition Kirby Dach have combined for 23 goals and 26 assists this season to give the Habs top two lines plenty of scoring talent. Behind the young goalscorers is a core of experienced forwards doing their part. Mike Hoffman, Sean Monahan and Josh Anderson have all contributed with scoring production this season as Montreal is actually pretty well settled for the future in the forward department.
Where the Habs struggle is on the blueline and in goal. Other than youngster Kaiden Guhle’s offensive production from the point and the decent play of Jordan Harris, the Habs blueline is putrid. The amount of chances they allow as a group has also given veteran goalie Jake Allen trouble and a 3.19 goals against average. It is hard to blame Allen, who sees a ton of quality chances against a night. Facing 326 shots already at this early stage of the season.
