Avalanche vs Red Wings Betting Pick
This game will be played at Little Caesars Arena at 7:30 PM ET on Wednesday, February 23, 2022.
Why Bet The Avalanche:
✅ It’s tough to go against the Avs, who own the best record in the NHL (36-10-4). Although they’ve dropped three of their previous seven contests, the Avalanche haven’t recorded two straight losses since November 6 and a 4-2 defeat at the Columbus Blue Jackets. Colorado has gone 7-1 in its last eight outings on the road and 11-1 in its previous 12 contests against the Eastern Conference.
✅ The Avalanche have owned the Red Wings over the last few years. They are undefeated in seven straight encounters with Detroit. Back on December 10, 2021, the Avs trounced the Red Wings 7-3 as massive -400 home favorites. They took a whopping 47 shots towards Detroit’s goalie, while six different players found the back of the net.

✅ Colorado boasts the second-highest scoring offense in the NHL, tallying 3.92 goals per game. The Avs have scored the most power-play goals in the league (43), so the Red Wings’ defense will have a mountain to climb in this home matchup. Detroit allows 3.43 goals per contest (25th in the league). The Red Wings have won five of their previous nine games, but in those four losses, Detroit has yielded 27 goals in total.
Colorado Avalanche
The Avs are coming off a heavy 5-1 defeat at the Boston Bruins last Monday. After a couple of road wins at Vegas 2-0 and Buffalo 5-3, the Avalanche struggled mightily at TD Garden, allowing 45 shots to the Bruins, who also won 14 faceoffs more than Colorado (38-24).
Darcy Kuemper has guarded the cage in the Avs’ last three contests and is expected to start between the pipes at Little Caesars Arena. The 31-year-old netminder is 25-6-2 with a 2.47 GAA and .919 save percentage in 2021-22.
Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings bounced back from a heavy 7-4 defeat at the Minnesota Wild last Thursday. They stunned the New York Rangers as +180 road underdogs, earning a 3-2 shootout victory. Thomas Greiss had a big night between the pipes with 37 saves, while Dylan Larkin scored his 26th goal of the season.
Greiss (3.17 GAA; .902 SV%) improved to 8-7-1 on the season, but we’re expecting Alex Nedeljkovic to get the starting call Wednesday. Nedeljkovic, who’s gone 2-3 over his past five starts, is 14-14-5 with a 3.01 GAA and .907 save percentage in 2021-22.
