Monday brings a new week of NHL action and a new month as the November 1 slate features three games on the ice. Including a meeting of two lowly teams in the standings looking to cash in on the opportunity at rare points against a fellow cellar dweller.

Blackhawks Look To Overcome Issues
Things are a mess in Chicago as scandal and dismal play have the Blackhawks mired in one of the worst starts to a campaign the league has seen in some time. Now nine games into the season, the Hawks are ranked second-worst in the NHL with an 0-7-2 record. They dropped a 1-0 result to the rival St. Louis Blues on Saturday, further pouring salt in the wounds of a veteran Blackhawks team enduring a nightmare start to their season.
Yet, the Blackhawks still have enough talent that they should be taken seriously by their opponents. With Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Seth Jones, and Alex DeBrincat in their lineup plus goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, Chicago has proven talent hungry to get their first win under their belt. With all of the talent on their roster, Chicago is simply too good and too experienced to go the opening month of the season without a win. But here we are.
Fleury’s struggles in goal are one of the biggest factors in the Blackhawks lengthy losing streak to open the season. After coming to Chicago from Las Vegas, Fleury has an 0-5-0 record with the Hawks this season. It is easy to see why as Fleury has an awful .872 save-percentage and a 4.53 goals-against average in those five starts.
The positive signs Fleury will return to form were there on Saturday as he had a sensational outing in goal against the Blues. Fleury stopped 36 shots in a 1-0 loss that came due to a lack of support from the players in front of him, rather than continued struggles in goal. A better performance from Fleury will be a welcome sight for the Blackhawks, who will just need to score some goals to support their goalie if he can put together another strong outing.
Why Bet The Blackhawks
Monday night’s meeting with the Sens presents a perfect opportunity for Chicago to put their struggles behind them with a win to start a new month. After a pathetic October of hockey, a win is what the Blackhawks need to turn the page and begin to play themselves back into respectability.
The question of course is will the Blackhawks win? I am leaning towards answering yes to that question and betting on the hosts as -120 favorites. Chicago has a lot of issues both on and off the ice, but this is a game they will be motivated to win and they are the significantly better team on paper. Ottawa’s 3-4 start deserves credit, however, they lack the talent the Blackhawks have and will be in deep against a team desperate to get a win on the board in the standings.
Chicago will open November with a win and snap their month-long losing streak. Bet on the Blackhawks at -120 odds.
