Spain
Spain is through to their 12th consecutive World Cup, 16th overall, and will look to win their second title. ‘La Roja’ qualified for Qatar 2022 by finishing first in Group B of UEFA World Cup Qualifying.
This Spain team is talented, but it remains to be seen who will put the ball in the back of the net. Ansu Fati, Alvaro Morata, Marco Asensio, and Pablo Sarabia will be tasked with leading the front line for Spain.
The midfield is as talented as you will see with Pedri, Gavi, Rodri, and Sergio Busquets anchoring the middle of the field. In defense, Cesar Azpilicueta, Jordi Alba, and Dani Carvajal will anchor an experience backline. Unai Simon will be in between the sticks for Spain as he is always good for a slip up or two.
Costa Rica
Costa Rica are into their third consecutive World Cup, and sixth overall, as ‘Los Ticos’ look to back up their quarterfinal run at Russia 2018. It was a tough route to Qatar for Costa Rica as they finished fourth in CONCCAF World Cup Qualifying and had to beat New Zealand, 1-0, in the Inter-confederation playoffs to qualify for the World Cup.
Costa Rica is an old team, but they do have another generation that is coming up and should keep them in World Cups for the near future. In this edition, ‘Los Ticos’ will be led by their star goalie Keylor Navas.
Joel Campbell is still around to lead the front line along with veteran Johan Venegas. In the midfield, 37-year-old Bryan Ruiz will captain the team and will have help from Celso Borges and Yeltsin Tejeda. An experienced defense will be led by Kendall Watson, Bryan Oviedo, and Oscar Duarte.
