Matchday 3 | Group I | June 26, 2026 | BMO Field, Toronto | 3 PM ET
Senegal and Iraq meet in Toronto with both teams still alive, but only just. France and Norway have already taken the top 2 places in Group I, leaving Senegal and Iraq fighting for a third-place finish that may or may not be enough.
Both have lost their first 2 matches, both need a win, and both would still have to wait on results elsewhere. That makes this more interesting than a simple consolation fixture, even if Senegal are clearly the stronger side.
Pick: Senegal -1.5 -120
Confidence: 3 out of 5
Senegal have made hard work of this group. They lost 3-1 to France after missing chances during a strong first half showing, then gave Norway too many easy openings in a 3-2 defeat. The attacking signs were better in that second game, especially through Ismaila Sarr, but the defensive mistakes have left Pape Thiaw’s side needing a win and help elsewhere.
Iraq are in a similar position on the table, but the performances have been much more limited. They lost 4-1 to Norway and 3-0 to France, conceding 7 goals across 2 matches while struggling to create sustained pressure. Graham Arnold has kept belief in the expanded-format route, but Iraq now need both a result and a major swing in goal difference to have any realistic chance of progressing.
The straight Senegal moneyline is too short to be useful on its own. The market has Senegal priced like a heavy favorite, so the handicap approach is the most valuable angle of attack. Against an Iraq side that has already been stretched badly by France and Norway, Senegal -1.5 is the stronger betting angle if available around -120.
There is one obvious caution: Edouard Mendy is out after suffering a knee injury against Norway. That weakens Senegal’s clean-sheet case and makes a 3-1 scoreline slightly more realistic than a sterile 2-0. But Iraq also have their own issue, with Aymen Hussein a fitness concern after going off early against France. If he is not fit to start, Iraq lose their best target, their main penalty-box threat, and the player most likely to turn direct service into a goal.
Senegal should have too much. Sarr’s pace, Mane’s experience, Nicolas Jackson’s movement, and Ibrahim Mbaye’s energy give them more routes to chance creation than Iraq can match. This is not a spot to lay a heavy moneyline, but it is a fair spot to back Senegal to win with separation.
The risk is that this becomes tense rather than open. Senegal need a convincing win, but chasing margin can also lead to rushed decisions. Still, Iraq have struggled to defend sustained pressure, and Senegal have the speed and individual quality to punish tired legs in the second half.
Clean build: Senegal to win + Senegal Over 1.5 Team Goals. This follows the main handicap read without needing a specific scorer or an Iraq goal.
Aggressive build: Senegal -1.5 + Ismaila Sarr anytime scorer + Over 2.5 Goals. This is the higher-upside version, built around Senegal pulling away and Sarr continuing his scoring form.
Senegal projected XI (4-3-3): Gomis; Sabaly, Koulibaly, Diallo, Jakobs; Gueye, Ciss, Kouyate; Sarr, Jackson, Mane
Iraq projected XI (4-3-3): Basil; Hussein Ali, Tahseen, Hashem, Doski; Ismail, Al-Ammari, Iqbal; Qasem, Al-Hamadi, Bayesh
Lineups are projected and subject to late changes. Senegal are without Edouard Mendy, while Iraq are sweating on the fitness of Aymen Hussein after he went off against France.
Score Projection: Senegal 3 - Iraq 1
Win Probability: Senegal 75%, Iraq 8%, Draw 17%
Senegal have not defended well enough to trust them blindly, especially with Mendy unavailable, but their attacking level is still far above Iraq’s. Sarr, Mane, Jackson, Mbaye, and the bench options give them ways to change the game if the first half becomes frustrating.
The pick is Senegal -1.5 at -120. The moneyline is too short, while the handicap better captures the matchup: Senegal need a win, Iraq have conceded too many chances, and the gap in pace and attacking quality should show over 90 minutes.

Senegal are heavy favorites. Iraq have lost both group matches and have conceded 7 goals, while Senegal still have enough attacking quality to win this by multiple goals.
What is the best bet for Senegal vs Iraq?

Why bet Senegal -1.5 instead of the moneyline?
Senegal’s ML offers limited return. The -1.5 line needs a 2-goal win, which fits Iraq’s defensive record and Senegal’s need to chase a strong final group performance.
What is the predicted score?
The projected score is Senegal 3 - Iraq 1.
What is the best player prop?
Ismaila Sarr anytime scorer is the best prop if he starts. Senegal Team Total Over 1.5 Goals is the cleaner team-based alternative.
