- Miami went 7-2 at home this season but was just 4-4 on the road.
- Kansas City finished second in the NFL in scoring defense this season and should beat the Dolphins for a second time.
The most highly-anticipated game on the NFL Wild Card weekend schedule might be Saturday night’s Dolphins vs Chiefs matchup from Kansas City. The star power in this game is undeniable on both sides, while the storyline of Tyreek Hill facing his old team in the playoffs is certainly a compelling one. Kansas City is favored going into this contest, as they look to get the better of the Dolphins for the second time this year.
A lot has been made of the weather going into this game, with temperatures expected to be frigid in Kansas City on Saturday night. But the real differentiating factor of this contest could be the two defenses, as Kansas City is superior on that side of the ball. The Chiefs rank second in the NFL in scoring defense and should be able to slow down Tua Tagovailoa and company, while the Dolphins are dealing with injuries all over their defense.
Also key going into Dolphins vs Chiefs will be home-field advantage. Miami missed its opportunity to host a Wild Card playoff game when they lost to the Buffalo Bills last week, giving the AFC East title to their division rivals. Miami is 7-2 at home this year, but a mediocre 4-4 on the road, making that change at the top of the AFC East in the final week of the regular season a potentially devastating one for the visitors in this contest.
Both of these teams have performed well against the spread this season, with the Dolphins going 10-7 against the number and the Chiefs going 9-7-1 against the spread. But the Dolphins are far less impressive at home than they are on the road. We should see the Chiefs win and cover the spread against Miami for the second time this season, after they did so in Frankfurt earlier in the year.
