The second game on the NFL Divisional playoff schedule on Saturday is Packers vs 49ers from Santa Clara. The San Francisco 49ers come into this game as huge favorites at home, coming off of their first-round bye. But the Green Bay Packers have some momentum entering the Divisional round after they crushed the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington in the opening round of their playoff campaign.
In this contest, we do expect the 49ers to win at home and cover the spread as 9.5-point favorites over the Packers. Even with the Packers riding high after Wild Card weekend, there are some key differences that will work in the favor of the Niners in this matchup. The first of those differences is coaching, as the 49ers are subject to better coaching than the Cowboys, which should help to eliminate any upset possibilities.
Another key difference is that the 49ers are much better at stopping the run than the Cowboys were this season. Jordan Love was able to operate effectively thanks in large part to a Packers running game that averaged over 5.0 yards per carry with Aaron Jones last week. Jones will have more trouble finding running lanes in this Packers vs 49ers game, which will make things tougher on Love and the rest of the offense.
This season, San Francisco has won with margin time and time again. The 49ers won 12 games during the regular season, with 11 of those wins coming by double-digits. Expect another convincing win for the Niners here as they should get back to the NFC Championship Game once again under Kyle Shanahan, where they will look to perform better than they did last year when they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles.
