Stephon Castle, San Antonio Spurs
The favorite to win NBA Rookie of the Year is Stephon Castle of the San Antonio Spurs. Castle has proven to be a very good shooter in his first year as a pro. He has also contributed to his team in other ways, as the Spurs continue to improve with a core of Castle, Victor Wembanyama, and the newly-acquired De’Aaron Fox. He will look to finish strong to secure his first bit of individual hardware as a professional basketball player.
Kel’el Ware, Miami Heat
Also high on the list of NBA ROY favorites this season is Kel’el Ware of the Miami Heat. Ware was not expected to be in the mix to win this award going into the season, but he has been an instant contributor to a Heat team that has needed his contributions after all of the turbulence they have endured from Jimmy Butler in the first half of the year. Ware will have to play well down the stretch to outperform Castle, but that can’t be ruled out.
Zaccharie Risacher, Atlanta Hawks
Zaccharie Risacher was the number one overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft and is playing in his rookie year with the Atlanta Hawks. He hasn’t been a huge contributor in his first season by any stretch. But he has been a largely consistent performer for a franchise that needs as many of those as they can get around their superstar Trae Young.
Other NBA ROY Contenders
This season, the list of players who are still in Rookie of the Year contention in the NBA is getting shorter. A few interesting names along with the ones above are Zaccharie Risacher of the Atlanta Hawks and Zach Edey of the Memphis Grizzlies. Risacher has shown flashes in his first season in the league and, if Edey can stay consistently healthy, he should do the same.
2024-25 NBA Rookie of the Year Prediction
Right now, we will go with Stephon Castle to win Rookie of the Year in the NBA for this season. Both Castle and the Spurs have seen their stock rise throughout this year, as Castle was able to showcase his talents throughout All-Star Weekend while the Spurs continue to move closer to playoff contention. Look for Castle to have a strong close to his season and for the Spurs to get a second straight Rookie of the Year as a team.
