Can Falcons Stop Slide In Minnesota?
The Atlanta Falcons dropped to 6-6 in Week 13, losing a very winnable game at home against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Falcons held the Chargers to just 10 offensive points in that game, but they threw a pick-six as one of four total turnovers, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in that matchup. This week, the Falcons will look to snap their three-game losing streak to prevent themselves from falling behind in the race for the NFC South title.
Atlanta is starting to see the negative side of having Kirk Cousins as their quarterback, as he simply could not direct passes to teammates in big spots against the Chargers last week. While the Chargers have one of the best defenses in the NFL, some of Cousins’ decision-making in Week 13 was entirely his fault and not a product of facing an elite defense.
This week, Cousins has to be smarter with the football, especially when the Falcons are in scoring territory. Cousins threw interceptions in field goal range that cost the Falcons their game against Los Angeles. If he does that again this week, the Falcons could see their playoff hopes get much worse after Week 14.
Vikings Hope to Stay Hot At Home
Last time out, the Minnesota Vikings struggled for most of their game at home against the Arizona Cardinals. But Minnesota came back late in that game, improving to 10-2 on the season with their fifth consecutive victory. Here, the Vikings will look for a sixth straight win against a Falcons team that has struggled mightily over the last month or so.
Minnesota enters this week with a 5-1 record at home. Their lone home loss on the season was a 31-29 loss at the hands of the Detroit Lions, who are the favorites to win the Super Bowl at this point in the season. If the Vikings can continue to protect home field in this game, they could get another win to keep themselves within striking distance of the Lions in the NFC North standings.
To get a home win in this game, bottling up Bijan Robinson will be the number-one key for the Vikings. If Minnesota can slow down Robinson on early downs, they will force Cousins to beat them in long-yardage third-down situations. That could mean turnovers from Cousins, as the Vikings know all too well from the years in which Cousins was the starting quarterback in Minnesota.
Falcons vs Vikings Best Bet
We are going to lay the 5.5 points with the Minnesota Vikings in Sunday’s Falcons vs Vikings showdown. While Cousins would surely love nothing more than to lead his new team to a win over his former team, Cousins’ turnover problems are starting to creep out for Atlanta. Against an elite Vikings team, we expect Cousins to make some mistakes that will allow the Vikings to create separation and improve to 11-2 on the year.
