This offseason, the Celtics made several moves that they will hope can push them over the top in the Eastern Conference this season. But there are questions about the depth of this Celtics team after all of their maneuvering. Boston’s starting lineup is going to be very good, but their reserves consist of Al Horford and a group of less than stellar players like Peyton Pritchard and Oshae Brissett, which could cost them against deeper teams in the playoffs.
Positives & Negatives
The biggest positive for the Boston Celtics is going to be their starting unit, which should be excellent both in the regular season and the postseason. Jayson Tatum is one of the best players in the league, while Jrue Holiday should replace the defense of Marcus Smart while being a better offensive player.
But the frontcourt of this team is going to be shaky, especially if Kristaps Porzingis gets injured. Having the aged Al Horford and Luke Kornet as the team’s backup bigs could present problems if Porzingis’ injury issues flare up yet again. That, combined with a lack of bench depth, could be a real issue for this team down the stretch.
