Troy In Tough Spot, Searching For First Win
The Troy Trojans started their 2024 season with a loss at home against the Nevada Wolf Pack. In that 28-26 loss, Troy fell behind 28-17 early in the fourth quarter and scored 9 straight points to close out the game, falling short on a missed two-point conversion attempt in the final minute of play. This week, Troy will hope to avoid an 0-2 start but are massive underdogs in Memphis.
Run defense was the weak point of the Troy defense last week and that facet of their game will need to be better if they want a chance to win in Week 2. The Trojans allowed 214 yards on the ground to Nevada and allowing Memphis to carve them up on the ground in a similar fashion will make it easier for Memphis to get their passing game going as well.

Memphis quarterback Seth Henigan threw for 308 yards and two touchdown passes in that contest. And while Henigan will likely see more resistance from the Troy defense this week, his start to the season was certainly an encouraging one.
Memphis will look to win the turnover battle again this week against Troy after winning it 3-0 against North Alabama. That turnover margin helped make up for Memphis losing the time of possession battle, something the Tigers should be able to remedy if they can get their running game going against a soft Trojans run defense.
