The Miami Hurricanes and Indiana Hoosiers will play for the College Football Playoff national championship at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. This is essentially a home game for the Hurricanes, who happened to reach the title game during a year where it was scheduled to be at their home stadium. But they might need all the help they can get against a top-seeded Indiana team that has been crushing its competition. Here, I break down the national title game and make my Miami vs Indiana prediction for the natty.

Key Storylines
The Miami Hurricanes were discussed as a team that did not belong in the College Football Playoff this year. But they got the last at-large bid in the tournament and made the most of it, winning against Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Ole Miss to make the title game. The Hurricanes have been excellent on defense for the most part in this tournament, holding their three playoff opponents to a total of 14.7 points per game. Another defensive master class could win them a long-awaited championship.
Indiana is the opposite of the Cinderella story that Miami is. The Hoosiers were the top seed in this year’s playoff and have dominated Oregon and Alabama to reach this point. The Hoosiers are a win away from a perfect season under head coach Curt Cignetti and they are operating at such a high level on both sides of the ball that it is hard to anticipate any other ending.
Quarterback Play
Carson Beck has not been a star in the playoff for Miami. But he has done enough to get his team to this big stage. Beck threw for 268 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in the semifinals against Ole Miss. Mistakes cannot happen in this game if Beck is going to lead his team to the promised land.
On the other side, Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza has been simply unstoppable for Indiana. He completed 10 of his 11 pass attempts and had three touchdown passes in the first half against Oregon in the semis, helping his team take a 35-7 halftime lead that they would not relinquish. Mendoza is receiving buzz as a potential number-one pick in the 2026 NFL Draft because of just how well he has been playing.
