Red Raiders Move On After Surviving Week 1 Scare
The Texas Tech Red Raiders nearly fell victim to one of the biggest upsets in college football last week. They nearly lost at home to FCS Abilene Christian, who took them to overtime before the Red Raiders got a stop on a two-point conversion to seal a 52-51 victory. This week, the Red Raiders will have to be better on the defensive side of the ball if they want any chance to avoid a loss on the road against Washington State.
Texas Tech allowed 615 yards of total offense to Abilene Christian in Week 1, a number that they can't afford to repeat here in Week 2. This time around, the Red Raiders won't be facing an FCS offense, as Washington State could do a better job of giving their quarterback time to throw than Abilene Christian did. But any faint improvement from the Texas Tech defense could be all they need to get a win that would move them to 2-0 on the young college football season.
Washington State Looking For Big Home Victory
Washington State had a much more straightforward win than Texas Tech did in Week 1 of the college football season. They beat up on FCS Portland State in their season opener by a score of 70-30, in a game where the Cougars racked up 637 yards of total offense. This week, the Coogs will look to keep rolling offensively and get a second straight win to start their year as one of the two remaining teams in what is left of the Pac-12.
Of course, Washington State can expect a little more resistance from Texas Tech's defense than they got from the defense of Portland State. But with John Mateer coming off of a five touchdown performance at quarterback for Wazzu last week, they will feel confident that another big point total is coming against a Texas Tech team that was anything but convincing on defense against Abilene Christian in their opener.
Texas Tech vs Washington State Best Bet
The performance put in by Texas Tech against Abilene Christian last week was not just bad, it was downright alarming. Here, we will take the Washington State Cougars to cover the spread in Saturday's Texas Tech vs Washington State matchup, as the Cougars should be able to put Texas Tech's defense through more problems.
