Texas Longhorns at Oklahoma Sooners Best Bet – 10/12/2024
On Saturday, the latest edition of the Red River Rivalry game will play out, as the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners will meet at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, TX. Texas is a 14-point favorite going into this matchup, the first between these teams as members of the SEC. Meanwhile, the total for the game is set at 51. For our college football predictions for Texas vs Oklahoma, continue reading our preview of the game here.
Texas Back to Number One
The Texas Longhorns are the top-ranked team in college football going into the Red River Rivalry game on Saturday. They are 5-0 on the season and 1-0 in the SEC after beating up on the Mississippi State Bulldogs in their last outing two weeks ago. Here, the Longhorns will look to stay unbeaten and take advantage of their return to the top of the rankings after Alabama fell from the top spot after losing to Vanderbilt this past week.
For Texas to win this rivalry game, the Longhorns will need to continue to get strong play from the quarterback position. Texas is expected to have Quinn Ewers back under center for this game after he missed some time due to injury. As long as Ewers is healthy and playing at his typically high level, the Longhorns should be just fine as a heavy favorite here.
Oklahoma Hopes to Build On Comeback Win
Last week, the Oklahoma Sooners won their first conference game as a member of the SEC. They got the better of the Auburn Tigers on the road, coming back from a 21-10 deficit in the fourth quarter to improve to 4-1 on the season. The Sooners were held under 300 yards of offense in that game, but got a timely pick-six in the fourth quarter to take the lead and will hope to make timely plays against Texas as well.
Quarterback play has also been a huge topic of discussion for Oklahoma this season. They have gone with Michael Hawkins Jr. lately after starting the season with Jackson Arnold as their quarterback. Hawkins should get the start again in this game for the Sooners, but there will be questions about how effective he can be against the Texas defense after he was held to 161 passing yards against Auburn.
Texas vs Oklahoma Matchup History
Texas and Oklahoma have been playing each other in college football since 1900 in one of the most storied rivalries in the sport. Most of their rivalry has taken place in their previous conferences, but will be an SEC rivalry game going forward. Texas leads the all-time series between them 63-51-5, but Oklahoma has won five of their last six meetings and will look to pull an upset to continue that trend here.
Texas vs Oklahoma Betting Pick
While you can never count out the underdog in a rivalry game like this one, we will lay the points with the Texas Longhorns in this edition of the Red River Rivalry. The Longhorns are better on both sides of the ball and should be in good shape at quarterback with Ewers back on the field. Look for the Longhorns to improve to 6-0 and to make a statement that they belong in the number-one spot in the nation.
