Can Rice Win Second Straight Game?
The Rice Owls are 1-1 early in the college football season. They lost their first game of the year to the Sam Houston State Bearkats before winning last week against FCS foe Texas Southern. This week, the Owls are looking for their first win against an FBS opponent of the year and for their first road win of the young 2024 season.
The big concern for Rice going into this game is that they looked so bad offensively in their lone FBS game of the year against Sam Houston. The Owls failed to reach 300 yards of total offense in that season-opening game, scoring just 14 points against a team in its second year at the FBS level. Rice has to be better on that side of the ball to avoid dropping to 1-2 on the year.
Houston Seeking First Win Of the Season
It has not been a good start to the 2024 season for the Houston Cougars. They have dropped their first two games of the year, losing at home to UNLV and losing on the road to Oklahoma. And while there are no moral victories in the standings in college football, Houston can take some positives away from their most recent loss to the Oklahoma Sooners.
Houston's defense stepped up in a big way against Oklahoma, holding the Sooners to just 16 points. But the Houston offense only scored 12 points in that game and have scored 19 total points through their first two games. No matter how their defense plays, Houston has to be better on offense if they want to end their winless streak to start this season.
Rice vs Houston Best Bet
We don't have a ton of positives to take from Rice or Houston going into their all-Texas matchup in college football on Saturday. But the defense of the Houston Cougars should be the best unit on the field in that game.
