Penn State vs Oregon Big Ten Championship Game Prediction For 12/7/24

A pair of top-five teams in college football will play for the Big Ten championship as the Penn State Nittany Lions take on the Oregon Ducks. Oregon is the lone undefeated team remaining in the FBS and they are three-point favorites going into this matchup from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The total for the game has been set at 51.5 points. Continue reading to get our college football predictions for Penn State vs Oregon for the Big Ten title.

Can Penn State Get Back On Top Of Big Ten?

Ohio State and Michigan have won the last seven Big Ten championships. The last team to win the conference title other than those two teams was the Penn State Nittany Lions, who last won the conference championship game in 2016. Here, they will look to get back to the top of the mountain in this power conference by handing Oregon their first loss of the 2024 season.

Penn State lost one game during the regular season, with that loss coming against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Since then, the Nittany Lions have won four games in a row, three of which have come by double-digits. But there will understandably be questions about whether or not the Nittany Lions have what it takes to take down a top-five team in this game, as their only win against a ranked team this season came against an Illinois team that will end the regular season as a fringe top-25 team but nowhere near the best of the best.

As for this game, the key for Penn State will be the play of quarterback Drew Allar and their passing game. Oregon has been a top-10 scoring defense for much of the season and we have seen Allar and the Penn State offense struggle in their only other big test of the year against Ohio State. Penn State will need to find a way to score early on to avoid falling behind and having to chase this game.

Oregon Looks to Win First Big Ten Title

The Oregon Ducks have gone into the final week of the regular season with an unbeaten record, making a great first impression as a new member of the Big Ten. Oregon survived a handful of scares this season, including games against likely playoff teams Boise State and Ohio State. Here, they look to survive one more encounter with a team anticipated to be in the College Football Playoff, as a win over Penn State will likely make Oregon the top-seed in this tournament.

In this game, the defense of Oregon will be tested by Penn State tight end Tyler Warren. Catches by Warren accounted for over a third of Drew Allar’s passing yards this season. Warren is dangerous both as a traditional pass catcher and taking snaps in a wildcat quarterback role. His versatility makes him hard to prepare for and Oregon will have to figure out how to defend him consistently to avoid Warren becoming a real problem for them.

Penn State vs Oregon Prediction

We will go with Oregon to win and cover the spread in this year’s Big Ten championship game. The defense of Oregon should help them to gain the upper hand in this Penn State vs Oregon contest. Look for the Ducks to jump out to the lead early and for them to hold on late as they leave no doubt that they are the best team in all of college football going into the College Football Playoff.
