Toledo Rockets
The Toledo Rockets have won seven games in a row coming into this MAC matchup against the Akron Zips. Their most recent win was of the blowout variety over a poor Central Michigan squad. But all of that recent success could be for naught if they fail to get a win here against Akron in a game that could decide who finishes at the top of the conference standings this year.
Toledo is going to try and keep this game moving at a fast pace, and make it a high-scoring game. In a game with such a drastic contrast of styles, the Rockets will like their chances to win this matchup if they can do that. But it will be easier said than done against an Akron team that is so disciplined and so solid on defense.
Akron Zips
The Akron Zips are also on a long winning streak, having won eight consecutive games coming into this matchup. Their most recent win came over Kent State at home, beating the second place team in the MAC by 12 in Akron. Now the Zips have a chance to win against another elite team in their conference to make a real statement heading into the stretch run of the campaign.
Akron hangs its hat on defense for the most part, but they will need a big game from Xavier Castaneda to get a win here as well. Castaneda is averaging 21 points per game on the season, and has the ability to score both from the perimeter and at the rim. Without doing both in this contest, the Zips could see their perfect home record come to an end.
