Penn State Nittany Lions – Poised to Go Dancing
Penn State opened their Big Ten Tournament with an impressive 79-76 victory. The Nittany Lions used a big second half to take the lead and were able to hold off a late Fighting Illini run. This win should have cemented Penn State’s spot in the Big Dance.
These two teams just met on March 1st, and it was Penn State who got a massive 68-65 road win. This win likely saved Penn State’s season as they were coming off a poor loss before. The Nittany Lions rank out as the 55th best team in the metrics and Northwestern ranks 40th.
Northwestern Wildcats – Time to Make a Statement
Northwestern went into Rutgers and ended their regular season with an impressive 65-53 victory. The Scarlet Knights led for the first eight minutes of the game, but a long scoring drought gave the Wildcats the lead and they never looked back. Leading by four at halftime, the Wildcats pulled away in the second half to earn the second seed in the Big Ten Tournament. Northwestern led by as many as 14 points, trailed by seven, and won outright as five-point underdogs.
Brooks Barnhizer had 16 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block off the bench. Ty Berry added 12 points, seven rebounds, one assist, and one steal in the win.
After 31 games, Northwestern is scoring 67.7 points per game, shooting 40.9% from the field, and assisting on 13.0 made shots. The Wildcats are allowing 62.3 points, grabbing 34.5 rebounds, blocking 4.2 shots, and stealing the ball 8.0 times.
