In this year’s NIT championship game, we like the Sycamores to come out on top of this Seton Hall vs Indiana State matchup. While both teams have done well to get to this point, the Sycamores have a couple of things working in their favor in this game that should help them win a trophy to make up for not being included in this year’s NCAA Tournament.
First, Indiana State should have what is essentially a home-court advantage in this matchup. The Sycamores’ home arena in Terre Haute, IN is just under an hour and a half away from Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, where this game is being held. That will mean a huge percentage of fans supporting the Sycamores, which will help them and hurt the Seton Hall Pirates.
Crowd considerations aside, the offense of the Sycamores will be the biggest key to this Seton Hall vs Indiana State matchup. While Seton Hall is very strong defensively, Indiana State has one of the best offenses in the country this season in college basketball. They have scored 100 or more points twice in this tournament already, including in the semifinals against Utah just a couple of nights ago. Look for Indiana State to rack up another big number here in front of a partisan crowd.
And while Seton Hall deserves credit for regrouping after not being selected for the NCAA Tournament, and reaching the NIT title game, they were fortunate to play a weak slate of teams in order to get here. They faced a Georgia team that finished in the bottom-four in the SEC standings this season in the semifinals, as upsets paved them an easier than normal path to the title game. Their luck has run out here, though, as they will not be able to win what is essentially a road game against a very good Indiana State team.
