Going into the High Point vs Seattle matchup for the CBI championship, these two teams are playing very different styles of basketball. High Point is a team that has a high-octane offense, even if it comes at the expense of their defense. Meanwhile, Seattle is a team that hangs its hat on the defensive end of the floor. The team that imposes their style of play on their opponent in this game could lift the CBI trophy at the end of the night.
As far as our pick to win this championship matchup goes, we think the Seattle Redhawks will get the job done in Daytona Beach. Seattle has been phenomenal on the defensive end of the floor throughout this tournament, allowing just 60.3 points per game through three CBI contests. While they might not hold High Point down to quite that extent here, they will make life much tougher than usual for the Panthers.
As for High Point, their defense will be a concern once again on Wednesday night. While they are 2-0 in CBI play so far, the Panthers are coming off of a game where they allowed 80 points to Arkansas State in the semifinals. Another lackluster defensive showing could render the offense of High Point meaningless, as they look to rebound from the disappointment of failing to win the Big South tournament despite hosting that event.
The CBI is a tournament that has been won by teams like Oregon and VCU in the past, though the shine of this event has worn off to some extent in recent years. Still, teams have used the CBI title to springboard into successful seasons the next year. UNC Wilmington has done very well in the two years since winning the CBI, while Charlotte had a nice year following up last season’s CBI title. If nothing else, the winner of this High Point vs Seattle matchup can use their victory on Wednesday to build toward next year.
