- Alabama has the top-scoring offense in college basketball and Clemson’s defense is unlikely to shut them down the way Clemson has shut everyone else down.
- Alabama’s defense made the plays it needed to against North Carolina and their defense will step up again here.

This Clemson vs Alabama matchup is for the West Region championship, with the winner moving onto the Final Four. We expect that team to be the Alabama Crimson Tide, who should end Clemson’s run of three straight outright wins as an underdog in this tournament. The driving force behind that should be the offense of Alabama, which has been simply elite throughout this tournament and all season long.
Alabama struggled offensively for much of their second round matchup against Grand Canyon. But in the first and third rounds, they scored at least 89 points in each of those wins. Even without Latrell Wrightsell, Alabama managed to feast on the defense of North Carolina in the Sweet 16. They should be able to do the same thing against Clemson here.
For Clemson, establishing a presence in the paint from the beginning of this game will be key. The Tigers can use their play in the paint to not just score offensively, but to slow this game down and make it tougher for Alabama to ring up a big number offensively. Look for them to prioritize their interior players offensively early in this Clemson vs Alabama matchup to try and accomplish both of those goals.
This should be a reasonably close game at the end of the day. But the offense of Alabama, led by Mark Sears, should be able to make the winning plays down the stretch to win. Alabama is a very good free throw shooting team, which should help them to close this one out not just straight up, but against the spread as well in what should be their first trip to the Final Four under Nate Oats.
