The Bengals are a hard team to judge offensively after the 2023 season as they didn’t have their starting quarterback available for most of the year. On defense, things went horribly for the Bengals in 2023, as they ranked dead last in yards per play allowed and yards per pass attempt allowed. In theory, they could be better this year just by virtue of being paired with an offense that should be better in terms of time of possession. But from a personnel standpoint, the Bengals have a lot of work to do if they want to get stops on a more consistent basis.
Positives & Negatives
The return of Joe Burrow and his top receivers is the biggest positive to look forward to for the Bengals going into 2024. Having Burrow back healthy and with Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase to throw to should mean big things from the Bengals offense in the year to come, even if they are going through a transition period at the running back spot.
But the Bengals defense is a huge negative that will need to be addressed if this team is going to be a serious contender to win a championship. Cincinnati was below average just about everywhere on defense last season and now go into 2024 without Chidobe Awuzie, which could make things even tougher for them.
