AL MVP Contenders
Aaron Judge, New York Yankees
Aaron Judge had a down year by his standards in 2023 but he turned things around in 2024. Judge won AL MVP honors last season and is the favorite to get the job done again in 2025. With Juan Soto no longer in the Yankees lineup after he left for the crosstown rival Mets, Judge will need to deliver at an MVP level for his team to have another strong season, which cannot be ruled out given how much talent he has.
Bobby Witt Jr., Kansas City Royals
Bobby Witt Jr. was a contender to win the AL MVP award last season to the very end of the year, as he was the only player besides Judge to remain in the mix at the end of the regular season. Witt won the batting title in 2024, hitting .332 while boasting some impressive power numbers as well. He signed an extension with the Royals going into this year and he should continue to impress as he looks to bring the Royals back to the postseason in 2025.
Yordan Alvarez, Houston Astros
The most important player to the success of the Houston Astros is no longer Jose Altuve, it is Yordan Alvarez. Alvarez finished in the top-10 in MLB in batting average last season, while clubbing 35 home runs. He will need to put together another huge year if the Astros are going to be serious contenders to win the American League pennant this year, which would put him in the thick of the MVP race once again.
