The New York Liberty and Chicago Sky both have high hopes early in the WNBA season. New York started their campaign with an impressive win over the Connecticut Sun, while the defending champion Sky got off to a slow start with a loss to the LA Sparks. Here, we look at Liberty vs Sky in our WNBA predictions for Wednesday night, as both teams look for a quality win in the Windy City.
Why Bet The Liberty:
✅ Sabrina Ionescu should be able to take advantage of a favorable matchup with the guards of the Chicago Sky. Chicago is missing several guards early in the season, and gave up over 50 points to the guards of the Sparks in their opening game. The Liberty’s point guard should have a big game here to follow up on her 25-point performance against a Sun team that is gifted defensively.
✅ Speaking of defense, the Liberty were impressive on defense in their first game against Connecticut. They held Jonquel Jones to 15 points on 6/17 shooting from the field, as one of the league’s toughest covers struggled to get going over the weekend. They face another tough test against Candace Parker and the Sky, but should be able to handle that challenge.

✅ Depth is such a huge problem for the Sky right now, as they scored just four bench points against the Sparks. The Liberty rolled with a short rotation in their first game, but the Sky’s reserves contributed next to nothing in their opener and that should continue here against a tough Liberty team.
New York Liberty
The New York Liberty opened their season with an unexpected win over the Connecticut Sun to move to 1-0 under Sandy Brondello. New York got 25 points from Sabrina Ionescu to lead them to victory, but it was a team effort for the Liberty as they shot 40% from three-point range for the game. While the Liberty are not at 100% early in the season from a health standpoint, their starting lineup is elite and could propel them to another big win here.
The big question for this Liberty team is going to be how they perform on the glass in this contest. They were outrebounded in a big way by the Sun in their first game, but evaluating a team’s rebounding against a team as solid as the Sun may not be fair. How Natasha Howard and Stefanie Dolson lead the Liberty on the glass will be interesting to see here.
Chicago Sky
Chicago’s title defense did not get off to a good start, as the Sky lost their first game to the Los Angeles Sparks at home. The Sky got just four bench points in that game, as the absences of Kaleah Copper and Allie Quigley are significant given that the team let Diamond DeShields go in the offseason. In this game, a lack of quality guards will be significant once again as the Sky face a Liberty team led by Sabrina Ionescu.
On the bright side for the Sky, the big trio of Candace Parker, Emma Meesseman, and Azura Stevens all scored in double figures for the Sky against Los Angeles. They will need all three to play well in this game to trouble a Liberty team that prefers to play just two bigs. Stevens will be the X-factor, as Parker and Meesseman are going to draw more attention from the Liberty defense.
