- Chicago should have the upper hand in the paint in this game as they have more bodies to commit to rebounding the basketball than New York.
- The Liberty have struggled to cover the number early in the season, going just 1-3 against the spread.
There are three undefeated teams left in the WNBA heading into Thursday night’s action. One of those undefeated teams is the New York Liberty, who host the Chicago Sky in Eastern Conference action tonight. Here, you can find our WNBA betting picks for Sky vs Liberty in an interesting matchup between Eastern Conference opponents.
This game will be played at 7:00 PM ET at Barclays Center on Thursday, May 23, 2024.
Chicago Sky
The Chicago Sky have had some considerable time off since their last game, which was back on Saturday in a win over the Dallas Wings. Chicago is 1-1 to start their season, as they have seen some promising signs from rookie Angel Reese to begin their year. Now, the Sky will face one of the toughest games they will play all season against the New York Liberty, as they hope their rest advantage comes into play in Brooklyn.
One of Chicago’s strengths early this year has been its ability to compete on the glass, which they did an admirable job of against Teaira McCowan and the Dallas Wings in their first two games of the season. They could have even more help on the boards tonight, with Isabelle Harrison being upgraded to questionable for this matchup. Whether Harrison plays or not, though, this game will be a great test for Reese and the Sky frontcourt.
New York Liberty
The New York Liberty have won all four of the games they have played to start the 2024 WNBA season. New York has notched two wins over the Indiana Fever, one over the Washington Mystics, and one over the Seattle Storm to begin the year. But all three of those opponents have looked bad to begin this season, as the Liberty will need to play better than they have been if they want to win convincingly over Chicago at home tonight.
Committing to rebounding in numbers will be a huge key to this game for New York. Jonquel Jones will not be able to rebound against multiple bigs by herself all night long, as Breanna Stewart and the Liberty backcourt will need to help her to win that battle on the backboard. While the Liberty have a clear advantage from the perimeter in this game (and in most games they play), they have to be cautious not to let Chicago hang around in this game via second-chance points.
