Dimitrov vs Hurkacz is one of the Thursday quarterfinal matches on the schedule at the Indian Wells Masters 1000 event on the ATP Tour. Both players have been excellent so far in this tournament, and should feel like they have an opportunity on a surface that suits their game very well. In our ATP tennis predictions from Indian Wells, we examine Dimitrov vs Hurkacz and pick a winner for this all-European semifinal clash.
Grigor Dimitrov vs Hubert Hurkacz
Why bet on Hubert Hurkacz:
✅ Hubert Hurkacz has yet to drop a set in this tournament, taking down his three opponents in short order to make it to the quarterfinals. His game has done very well on slow outdoor hard courts this year, as evidenced by his previous Masters 1000 title in Miami.
✅ Grigor Dimitrov is coming off of a grueling match against Daniil Medvedev to get to the quarterfinals. He had to come back from a set and two breaks down to rescue that match, and may come out flat after having to redline his game for the final set and a half to survive with his back against the wall.

✅ Hurkacz has been broken just twice this week, while Dimitrov suffered break after break against Medvedev just one day before this matchup. Hurkacz’s momentum over the last few weeks is undeniable, and he is playing close to his best tennis here at Indian Wells.
Grigor Dimitrov
Grigor Dimitrov has had a very impressive week at Indian Wells, highlighted by his massive comeback to beat Daniil Medvedev in the round of 16. Dimitrov was down a set and 4-1 in the match, and reeled off five straight games to end the second set to level things up. In the third, Dimitrov didn’t take his foot off the gas, and defeated the top seed at this tournament and the 2021 US Open champion.
Dimitrov wasn’t really tested in his first two matches this week, not being broken against Daniel Altmaier and Reilly Opelka. But Dimitrov passed the biggest test he’ll face at this tournament, breaking Medvedev six times and surviving being broken five times to get to this stage of the tournament. Now, the question is how Dimitrov will follow up that signature victory, as he has less than 24 hours to prepare for an in-form Hubert Hurkacz.
Hubert Hurkacz
Through three matches at Indian Wells, Hubert Hurkacz has yet to be tested much at all, winning all of his matches in straight sets so far. The Polish player has defeated Popyrin, Tiafoe and Karatsev to reach the quarters, having his serve broken just two times in the tournament. Here, he will play an opponent in Dimitrov who has proven that he is more than capable of racking up breaks of serve, meaning that Hurkacz cannot afford to have many loose points if any.
Working in Hurkacz’s favor heading into this match is that he has really settled into a groove on slower hard courts in 2021. He claimed the Miami Masters, yes, but he is also fresh off of an indoor hard court title in Metz just a couple of weeks ago. This could be his best surface, as Hurkacz is able to get more balls back across the net on courts that are as difficult to his through as Miami and Indian Wells, putting pressure on his opponents as a result.
