Tiger Woods will miss the cut for the fourth time in his career as he carded a 3-over-par 75 in the second round of The Open Championship on Friday in St. Andrews, Scotland.
Following his 78 on Thursday, Woods stood nine over par, off the predicted cut line of even par. The top 70 golfers and ties will advance to the weekend. Woods walked off the course tied for the 150th position of 156 golfers.
Woods returned to competitive golf after suffering severe injuries to his right leg and foot in a vehicle accident in February 202. However, he did not make the cut this round.

Woods’ British Open performance
Woods began the 150th British Open with a double bogey on No. 1. In the opening round, the 15-time major champion made five bogeys and two double bogeys for a score of 6-over par. In addition, he made three birdies.
Woods played better on Friday but not well enough to make the cut. He parred the opening two holes and carded a birdie on No. 3.
He then bogeyed two of the following three holes, finishing 1-over par for the first nine. Woods had nine consecutive pars before he made another bogey on No. 16. He made par on holes No. 17 and No. 18 and was 2-over on the back nine.

Woods had a chance to finish with a short birdie try at the No. 18 green, but another putt lipped out. He tapped in the par before waving to the fans, shaking his head.
Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland was making his way up the first hole, parallel to No. 18, as Tiger Woods made his way up the final fairway. McIlroy was caught on camera tipping his hat to Woods.
“The warmth and the ovation at 18, it got to me,” Woods said. “Just the walk. I felt the guys there stop there off the tee at 18. It was just incredible, the amount of understanding and respect that are involved in this event.”

Adam Scott recorded a 7-under par 63 in the second round, the best score thus far. Cameron Smith was 5-under par after nine holes in the second round. Early Friday, Smith had a one-stroke lead over second-place Dustin Johnson and first-round leader Cameron Young.
Woods’ return
It is still unclear whether or not the 46-year-old Woods would be able to compete in another Open Championship at St. Andrews, which he had previously won in 2000 and 2005. Reports say that there is a possibility that It will be quite some time before the major championship makes its way back to the site.
“I’ve been lucky enough to have been (playing at St. Andrews) since 1995,” Woods said to NBC Sports after his round.

“I don’t know if I’ll be physically able to play another British Open here at St. Andrews. I certainly feel like I’ll be able to play more British Opens, but I don’t know if I’ll be around when it comes back around here,” he explained.
When Woods returned in April, he finished 47th in the Masters, making it to the tournament’s final weekend. He made the cut at the PGA Championship the following month. However, he withdrew after the third round because of ongoing leg and foot pain.
