On Friday, the New York Rangers selected six players from the second through sixth rounds in the conclusion to the entry draft. Currently, the team is in a desperate situation where they need a second-line center, either from a trade or a free-agent signing, and Patrick Kane was seen as the team’s top target.
According to NY Post’s Larry Brooks, the priority of general manager Chris Drury is to create a top-six with the ability to generate points in the later rounds of the playoffs, knowing that the Rangers are now looking to take the next step in becoming a champion.
Kane in Blackhawks
Kane is a right-wing of the Chicago Blackhawks who has won three Stanley Cup championships with the Blackhawks. This season, Kane scored 65 points from a total of 55 games.
The 33-year-old has agreed on a contract that includes a full move ban clause. That contract now has just one year remaining and a value of $10.5 million, which means Kane has control over his next goal.
Recently, Kane has publicly spoken about where he wants to be in the future. For the past 15 years, Kane has considered Chicago his home even though he was born in Buffalo, New York.
He said he loved Chicago, as well as the Blackhawks fans. Even so, he realized that there was always a business decision in it.
He also realized that in the game of hockey, not many players played on the same team throughout their careers. “It’s an honor and a privilege if I can do that, but we’ll see how things turn out in the future,” Kane said.
Until now, the future of the Blackhawks’ top scorer has not been discussed with Kyle Davidson as the general manager of the Blackhawks. However, Kane has planned to discuss the matter soon as the trade can only be made with Davidson’s blessing as it is hampered by the immovable clause in the contract.
Kane’s record and performance
Kane has won three Stanley trophies in 2010, 2013, and 2015 under the Blackhawks. He also won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the 2013 playoffs.
In the 2015-16 NHL season, Kane won the Hart Memorial Trophy as Most Valuable Player. He also won the Art Ross Trophy as the goalscoring champion with 106 points consisting of 46 goals and 60 assists. In addition, he was also named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in 2017.
Kane reached a career-high in NHL in 2018-19 with 110 points consisting of 44 goals and 66 assists. As a result of his match on January 19, 2020, Kane became the youngest player in NHL history to reach 1000 points with one assist. In that match, the Blackhawks were able to beat the Winnipeg Jets with a score of 5-2.
All of these achievements have been made possible by Kane’s outstanding performances on the pitch as he has good instincts that make him a very talented passer. He also has skill in scoring goals with his nimble wrist.
Given that hockey requires team coordination, Kane always remembers to set up his teammates before taking a goal shot. He now has the best combination of goal-scoring talent, speed, and playmaking ability in the NHL.
