Thursday night was a spectacular one for the Golden State Warriors as the team won over the Boston Celtics and gained their fourth championship in eight years. While social media was filled with comments about the game, there were also some troll tweets directed at Kevin Durant, who used to play for the Warriors.
Durant and the legacy talk
Durant got dragged into the “legacy” talks that happen after every NBA season. Although some fans were comparing him with other legends of the game, Durant didn’t seem to be bothered with the “legacy” talk and responded to some of the tweets.
A fan with the username of @clubkakerou_ tweeted, “How does it feel to not be loved by any of the fans of the team you won back-to-back titles with all because you couldn’t help yourself from throwing shade at everyone in the organization whenever the opportunity arose?”
Durant then replied in a quote retweet where he said, “Love will get you killed.”
Another tweet came from someone with the username of @feltbot saying, “Kevin Durant’s legacy just died. He’s now just the guy between Harrison Barnes and Andrew Wiggins. The guy who left the Beatles.”
Durant replied by saying that he’s been “dead” since July 4, 2016, referring to the date when he joined the Warriors. In the same reply, Durant also acknowledged his former teammates for the win.
“Congrats to the dubs and my boy Steezy, a Fillmore legend, man been waitin his whole life for a parade on market st.,” he said.
Apart from that, Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright said that the Warriors’ title would hurt Durant’s legacy. The Ringer’s Bill Simmons also added that Stephen Curry has surpassed Durant on his all-time list.
Durant is currently playing for the Brooklyn Nets. Even though the Nets got eliminated in this year’s playoffs, it seemed like Durant was having a good time with the team. He even signed a contract extension that allows him to play for the Nets through the 2025-26 season. BetMGM has the Nets at +650 to win the NBA championship just behind the Warriors who are at +565
Before he joined the Nets through free agency, Durant joined the Warriors, where he played for two championships along with Curry.
The Golden State Warriors’ victory
The 2022 NBA Finals ended with a victory for the Warriors. The team was leading the series 4-2 and finished Game 6 with a score of 103-90. For his outstanding performance, star player Curry received his first Finals MVP award.
Curry recorded 34 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Andrew Wiggins also contributed with 18 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals.
The Warriors’ victory was something remarkable, especially for the players, knowing that the team had just gone through a two-year hiatus from the NBA’s biggest stages and managed to return with a trophy.
The team used their time really well during the hiatus to revamp their roster. As a result, the Warriors acquired Wiggins, who excelled in his first finals appearance, as well as Jordan Poole, a young and rising star.
This year’s victory was the fourth championship for Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Andre Iguodala. The squad got their three championships in 2015, 2017, and 2018, when the Warriors advanced to the finals in five consecutive seasons.
