Regarding the MLB trade rumors which will happen on August 2, 2022, Juan Soto, a Washington Nationals superstar, expressed his views by quoting a Twitter post from Derek Jeter. Although the tweet has now been deleted, the public has been speculating about what Soto was implying.
Soto quoted Derek’s tweet which read “One-way loyalty is stupidity.” After the quote was removed, fans could only see that Soto still had the post in the ‘like’ tab.
Several parties considered that Soto was expressing his desire to stay with the Nats. However, Soto also views that he is “being used” by the organization.
Soto refuses contract offer
According to a source, the 23-year-old baseball player has rejected the Nats’ contract offer. The contract has a value of $440 million and would last for 15 years.
One of the reasons Soto turned down the contract offer given by Nats was that the offer was heavily replenished and the average contract value of $29.3 million was ranked 20th overall. This is reportedly not profitable for Soto as he could secure a contract deal worth more than $500 million as a free agent in the future.
Regarding the rejection of the contract, Soto said that “I don’t know what or who to trust.” He explained that the franchise’s attitude regarding potential trade had changed towards him.
After Soto turned down the offer, the Nats have reportedly made stellar outfielders available on the trading market. This suggests that the Nats will be looking for a big payoff in exchange for Soto who is now on the rise as an MLB All-Star player.
Moreover, reports say that Nats had refused to charter a flight to Los Angeles for Soto, which was why the 2022 Major League Baseball Derby Home Run champion flew privately to the city. Thus, the whole situation reportedly disappointed Soto.
Twitter reactions
A fan with the username @carsons_97 said, “I know there is the story about them not flying him to the ASG which is crappy.” He also explained that the value of the contract offered by Nats was deemed to have no respect for Soto.
Another comment came from @storm_trooper29 who said, “Nationals throwing absolute haymakers in the air rn.” In addition, @pochineskyy also wrote, “oh he’s gone, gone.”
