The Buffalo Bills’ training camp session that had been held on Saturday, July 20, did not end well for Josh Allen. This relates to an incident that occurred between two Bills players, Allen and Jordan Phillips, who got into a fight in the middle of training activities.
The incent occurred in the final game of the third day when Allen, the quarterback, was set for goal-line situations. The 26-year-old took the snap and faked a handoff which was then swarmed by defenders leaving him nowhere to go and keeping the ball in the middle to keep pace with the play.
Before play came to a complete halt, Phillips’ defensive tackle hit the shoulder of Allen who was making a pitch. This annoyed Allen and turned to Phillips to show his annoyed expression.
Allen’s reaction to Phillips’s punch
Apart from giving an annoyed expression, Allen, who was enveloped in anger, immediately turned around and pushed Phillips. The altercation caused a group of players on the field to gather and try to separate the two teammates.
Two other players ran from outside the game and added to the commotion in the already chaotic atmosphere. After a while, the fight could end when the players started to leave the field.
Phillips was judged not to have hit Allen despite the fact that it was unintentional. On the other hand, Allen seemed to overreact to the blow. Allen’s overreaction put his body and arms in even greater danger.
Even though the training camp was filled with fights and ended in an unpleasant way, it wasn’t long before the two sides parted amicably.
Fans’ reaction to the incident at the training camp
Similar incidents at the training camp are not uncommon. Even so, some asserted that the Bills should minimize similar clashes. This is due to the start of the next season getting closer.
Several fans also gave their responses via social media, such as Twitter, regarding the incident. Here are some reactions from internet users:
An account with the username @ch1ckster questioned what Phillips had done. “He’s one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL and you’re trying to clash with the guy who could get you to the Super Bowl?” he wrote by quoting the video.
@good2be_ataylor wrote, “This is the fastest way to get kicked out as a defender. Can’t touch quarterback 1 when he’s an actual dude.”
Furthermore, @christjanw considered that Phillips did nothing wrong. “I really don’t think that Phillips did anything wrong. On the other hand, Allen looks soft on that one,” he wrote.
Others consider that this fight shows a competitive and healthy attitude towards the 2022-23 season. This was because the Bills had high hopes for the season and Allen was the pre-season favorite for the league’s MVP. In addition, the Bills are also expected to compete in the fight for the Super Bowl title.
