Jake Paul tried to get his hands on baseball with poor performance as the batting practice session was recorded on Tuesday night.
At the game between the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres, Paul threw out his first pitch and was trolled on Twitter after a rigorous batting practice session.
A video that has since gone viral showed Paul strike out in the cage at LoanDepot Park in Miami. He was being coached up by someone who said “Start a little earlier.”
His practice session was held before the game between the Marlins and the Padres in San Diego, where the Marlins emerged victorious by 4-3. He showed after his fight with Hasim Rahman Jr. at Madison Square Garden was canceled early this month due to Rahman’s weight issues.
While wearing a custom Marlins jersey with 5-0 on the back, Paul took a batting practice ahead of the team’s game against the Padres. It resulted in the boxing novice Paul striking out to three pitches in rapid succession as the session was recorded.
Paul repeatedly took his eye off the ball and looked uncomfortable while he was in the batter’s box. Regardless, on the video, he could be heard saying “I’ve got this,” though he missed the ball entirely.
10 years ago, Paul tweeted that baseball was “easy” and claimed that the video was edited.
“Alright, so the video of me missing all of the swings is edited, guys,” he said.
“I hit a home run but the cameras weren’t rolling for that part. I hit it a couple of times. I’m better than that.”
The 25-year-old later took the mound for his pitch and while being several feet in front of the mound, it was still a good toss. Paul later showed off his “home run celebration” and danced on the field in another video.
Paul’s image as boxer
BuzzFeed reporter Kelsey Weekman said that Paul has been creating his public image as a boxer much like how he did his YouTube videos: filled with fights, drama, and drawing attention.
In July, on one of the stages in Madison Square Garden, he sang Empire State of Mind just beneath a poster depicting himself.
During a news conference, Paul demonstrated his ability to trash talk, which the announcer referred to as “tremendous theater.”
He challenged Rahman Jr. to change his Instagram display name into “I let my dad down” if the latter lost the fight. Rahman simply retorted by calling Paul a “content creator.”
According to Weekman, regardless of his talk and flair for drama, Paul appears to genuinely like boxing.
“Boxing changed my life and saved me in a lot of ways,” he said. “When you grow up in the spotlight and you’re dealt so much power and responsibility at a young age, it’s easy to fumble. And that’s what I did.”
Paul still has 67.4 million followers across his social media platforms. However, over the past few years, he has significantly reduced his posting routine in favor of a rigorous gym routine.
Thanks to his career and earnings as an influencer, Paul established his own company, Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) in 2021 and personally selected his opponents. They include martial artists, a fellow YouTuber, and a former NBA player.
However, as of today for two and a half years, he has yet to face a professional boxer.
