According to several reports, Jacksonville Jaguars announced the waiver of their linebacker Ty Summers, who was recently added to their roster.
Before joining the Jaguars, Summers previously played for the Green Bay Packers. He was waived by the Packers on August 28 and the Jaguars signed him on Wednesday, August 31.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk said that the Jaguars are required to list the 53-man roster as the NFL regulation that drives them to release Summers.
The players on the bottom spot could probably be involved in roster change and would “churn and churn some more”, according to Yahoo News.
Summers played his college football for TCU Horned Frogs from 2015 to 2018. During the 2019 NFL Draft, he was selected as a seven-rounder rookie by the Packers and signed his rookie contract on May 3, 2019.
In his three-season career with the Packers, Summers played a total of 46 games and only managed to start the game once. He was involved in 52 tackles as a linebacker for 37 solo tackles tallied and 15 tackle assists.
Summer’s most recorded tackles occurred in 2020, when he played 16 regular season games with 37 tackles, 25 solo tackles, and assisting 12 tackles for the Packers, respectively.
Moreover, he was named to enter the 2021 NFL season on the Special Team Lineup and backup linebacker, despite being placed on the reserve squad due to injuries on December 2021.
As a result, Summers goes back to free agency after his short stint on the Jaguars’ roster with no game played. In the near future, he will likely sign for any team or any practice squad in the NFL, according to Yahoo News.
Jaguars’ current roster
With Summers’ departure, several players are still included on the Jaguars linebacker’s roster, including four main players: Josh Allen, Devin Lloyd, Foyesade Oluokun, and Travon Walker.
On the other hand, the Jaguars’ newer addition of linebacker, Caleb Johnson appears to be listed as the fifth inside linebacker behind first-round rookie Devin Lloyd, Oluokun, third-round rookie Chad Muma, and Shaquille Quarterman.
On the offensive lineups, Jaguars listed two quarterbacks, Trevor Lawrence as the main signal-caller, and C.J. Beathard as the backup. Their main three wide receivers will include Christian Kirk, Marvin Jones Jr. and Zay Jones, while Tim Jones, Jamal Agnew and Kendric Prior named as first receivers backup.
Furthermore, Jaguars listed four tight ends for the 2022 NFL season with Evan Engram as the starter, followed by Chris Manhertz as the first backup, Dan Arnold as the second backup and Luke Farrell on the bottom of the tight end’s depth chart, respectively.
On the running back depth chart, Travis Etienne Jr. is listed as the starter, while James Robinson, Snoop Conner and JaMycal Hasty play as Etienne Jr.’s backup, consecutively.
The Jaguars will play their season opener against Washington Commanders on Sunday, September 11, at FedEx Field in Summerfield, Maryland.
Doug Pederson will likely include all of his starters, with Lawrence as the quarterback to lead the team’s offense, according to sources.
