The San Francisco Giants are planning to honor Hunter Pence this season. He will be inducted into the Giant’s Wall of Fame on King Street outside Oracle Park on September 17.
Pence will be the first inductee to have his plaque presented during an on-field ceremony. This event will take place before a game with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“I’m truly humbled by this honor,” Pence said. “To be included among people who I consider legends of the organization is surreal and I’m overwhelmed with gratitude to even be considered.
“The Giants organization and the San Francisco community are my family. This honor wouldn’t be possible if not for the love, support, and dedication I’ve shared with them. I can’t thank the club, my teammates, and the fans enough for the unforgettable memories.”
The team recently reduced the Wall of Fame qualifications. Pence, however, met the previous criteria after spending eight seasons in San Francisco and earning one of his four career All-Star nominations with the Giants in 2014.
Until 2018, players who played nine seasons in San Francisco or five seasons with at least one All-Star selection were eligible for the award. It has now been changed to include anyone who participates in three World Series championships with the Giants or “who have made a remarkable impact on the franchise”.

“The Giants Wall of Fame is a place where we permanently honor both players and individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the organization and Hunter is definitely one of those players,” said Giants president and CEO Larry Baer.
“His pivotal role in our two World Series Championships will forever be remembered by our fans and his connection to this great city is a special one.”
About Hunter Pence
Pence played for San Francisco from 2012 through 2018 and once more in 2020. He helped the team win two World Series championships in 2012 and 2014. Throughout 789 games, he batted .265, scoring 391 runs and accumulating 135 doubles, 26 triples, 95 home runs, and 412 RBIs.
In the same season he received his lone All-Star selection in San Francisco, he received the Heart and Hustle Award. He was awarded the Willie McCovey Award in 2013.
Currently, Pence is working as a broadcaster for Apple TV’s Friday Night Baseball. He is also an analyst on MLB Network.
“He’s got, like, a really horrible swing,” said former Giants outfielder Gregor Blanco. “He throws, like, really weird. He runs weird. Everything he does is, like, awful. But, he has something that is different from everybody else.
“The preparation, the love for the game — he loves this game so much. He loves to compete more than everybody else. He works harder than everybody else, and he really believes that he can be the greatest player ever.”

The Giants will give away a pair of foam fingers to the first 20,000 attendees of the ceremony as a tribute to Pence’s “Yes! Yes! Yes” speech from the 2014 postseason when Pence hit safely in 15 of his 17 games.
