Courtney Cronin of ESPN noted that the Commanders needed to win the game to bounce back from their losing streak.
In the first half, the Bears’ primary QB Justin Fields got his pass intercepted when the Commanders’ defensive lineman Jonathan Allen caught the ball.
During the first-half last drive, Chicago’s RB Khalil Herbert was dispelled by two Commanders’ defensive linemen, LB Cole Holcomb and DE Montez Sweat. They both stopped Herbert on fourth-and-goal to stop him from scoring a TD.
The Bears went on Washington’s 48 with a snap during 2:34 remaining. Fields, however, missed his throw that targeted WR Ihmir Smith-Marsette. The snap failed on fourth down conversion and 16.
Shortly after, the Commanders took the field against the Bears, followed by kicker Joey Slye tallied a 48-yard field goal. The score went to 3-0 for the former team.
Starting the second half, the Bears countered the play on third-and-four when Fields threw a completion to WR Dante Pettis. He then caught the ball on a 40-yard reception and scored the only TD for the Bears.
Slye made another field goal kick from 28 yards to the end zone and chased the score to 6-7 for the Commanders.
When the Bears’ punt returner Velus Jones failed to make the catch, the Commanders’ P Tress Way punted 54 yards to the Bears’ 9. The muffed punt was then recovered by Washington’s CB Christian Holmes, setting up a comeback play.

Snapping at first-and-goal, Washington’s RB Brian Robinson ended the game with his rushing TD, changing the score to 12-7.
The Commanders’ QB Carson Wentz finished with 12 out of 22, while Fields went for 14 out of 27 completions for 190 yards and one INT.
Wentz, Allen praise Robinson’s contribution to Commanders’ victory
The late game-deciding TD was Robinson’s first as an NFL player. Wentz commented on Robinson’s performance and described it as a “huge” one coming from him.
“We’ve been on a skid lately. We’ve been in some tough games and had some tough goes with it. This one was huge,” Wentz said.
Another teammate, Allen, said that he was happy that the Commanders could seal their first win after a four-game losing skid.

“God is good, man,” Allen said. “The NFL is not for the faint of heart. Tough game, man. I’m glad we’re able to pull it out at the end.”
Fields, on the other hand, spoke about the Bears’ two big scoring chances in the first half. One of the opportunities he mentioned was his interception.
“We always get told that we’re almost there, we’re almost there,” Fields said. “Me personally, I’m tired of being almost there. I’m tired of being just this close. I feel like I’ve been hearing it for so long now.”
Into the next game, Washington will face the Green Bay Packers in Week 7.
