For Bellator 283, the match between Douglas Lima and Jason Jackson has garnered attention as the pair of the division’s best welterweights met there on Friday night. Jackson (16-4) defeated Lima during the course of the event, which took place in the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Washington.
In the main event of Bellator 283, Jackson defeated the previous three-time champion by unanimous decision after bringing him to the ground in each round. The judges’ scores were 50-45 in Jackson’s favor, which allowed him to move up the Bellator welterweight title ladder.
Jackson now trails only champion Amosov, interim champion Logan Storley, and most recent title challenger Page in the rankings after his victory against Lima. Jackson, a veteran of “The Contender Series” and “The Ultimate Fighter” has previously defeated Kiichi Kunimoto, Jordan Mein, Benson Henderson, Neiman Graice, and Paul Daley five times in a row.
Lima (32-11), however, appeared content to simply accept the takedowns and make it through the game. For the most of rounds three through five, the spectators booed vehemently for the lack of action, but Lima never seemed to try an attempt to change the momentum. Instead, Lima choose to occasionally let his defenses down by laying on his back, and he made little attempt to end this match.
Other contest results
In the co-main event, Tofiq Musayev (19-4) stopped Sidney Outlaw in just 27 seconds after dropping him with a devastating right hook to the jaw. Outlaw collapsed to the floor and forced referee Keith Peterson to stop the lightweight fight right away.
In another match, Usman Nurmagomedov, a lightweight contender, defeated Christopher Gonzalez and maintained his perfect record. Nurmagomedov (15-0) of Russia ended the fight at 2:54 in the first round by instantly locked in the guillotine on Gonzalez (7-2). Gonzales seemed to attempt to escape, but the choke was immediate and tight before he lose the match.
Unexpectedly, the following fight between experienced UFC fighter Lorenz Larkin (24-7, 2 NC) and Mukhamed Berkhamov was ruled a “no contest.” At 2:52 in the first, the fight was declared to be over when Larkin accidentally elbowed Berkamov in the back of the head while attempting to take down “Monsoon.” As a result, Berkamov was thus forced to collapse.
Larkin expressed his disappointment with the outcome of the event to the media during the post-fight news conference.
“I’m more disappointed,” he said.
“At first, I didn’t know if I hit him with a bad elbow. Then I saw the replay, and I was like, OK. But it wasn’t as hard as I wanted it to be. I knew I hit him with it, but it wasn’t what I thought to be stopped,” Larkin continued.
After the referee called foul, Berkamov slipped to the ground, and after briefly conversing with the referee and translator, Berkamov (14-0, 1 NC) said he was unable to continue.
It appeared as though Davion Franklin (5-1) of Chicago would snuff out his opponent after scoring three strong smashes in the opening round. However, Golm (10-3) made it difficult for Franklin and gradually wore him down.
Meanwhile, an exhausted Franklin had only 24 seconds remaining in the third round when a head kick was blocked, leading to a takedown and a rear-naked choke that finally forced him to submit.
In the preliminary stages of Bellator 283, even though Bobby King entered the bout with a two-fight winning run prior to Friday night, it didn’t make him untouchable when he lost to Gadzhi Rabadanov, who won with scores of 30-27 in all three rounds.
On the opposite stage, Rosta, a member of the American Top Team, defeated No. 7-ranked middleweight contender Cotton to extend his winning run to seven matches.
