The Chicago White Sox defeated the Oakland Athletics with a score of 14-2 on Thursday night. The Oakland fans then expressed their disappointment through social media posts as a result of the significant loss.
Yoan Moncada of the White Sox was performing well throughout the game after going five for six with two home runs. Meanwhile, in six innings, Dyland Cease reportedly struck out nine.
Moncada reacted that he “feels good” and that it was delightful when he saw everyone “contributing and adding to the team” during the game.
Acting White Sox manager Miguel Cairo expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance.
“Moncada, Gonzo, everyone had good at-bats,” he said.
Cease became the latest White Sox pitcher and the seventh player to have 200 or more strikeouts after the game, after reaching 206 strikeouts for the year. After reaching this milestone, Cease expressed his pride and view of it as a significant accomplishment.
“It’s definitely a big accomplishment, something I’m proud of,” Cease said.
Additionally, Cease mentioned that for him, every game, inning, and pitch matters.
“We know every game, every inning, every pitch matters right now. So to go out there and make a statement, both on the pitching and the offensive side, is important,” Cease added.
Romy Gonzalez, who went 4 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs for the White Sox, also contributed to their success. Meanwhile, both Eloy Jimenez and Elvis Andrus contributed by hitting home runs, one each.
Following the defeat, Oakland’s manager, Mark Kotsay, said that he had observed something that might have contributed to the outcome.
“We definitely saw something that could have led to the results,” he said.
“It definitely makes it easier at this level when you know a changeup is coming or off-speed is coming and you know a fastball is coming,” he added. “But that’s a good-hitting team and they’re playing really well.”
Fans’ reactions
As a result of this loss, many Athletics fans began to vent their anger and frustration on social media.
Twitter user @flearhcp97 posted on his account: “@Athletics I get it, but this is really disgraceful and insulting to the sport I love.”
@s4mura1champloo, another account, mentioned: “@Athletics BRO YALL DOWN 12 AND YALL F****** TROLLIN GO GET A F****** RUN.”

However, there were other accounts, such as the one run by @thebaseballwtf, who praised the White Sox for their performance.
“The Chicago White Sox absolutely demolished the Oakland Athletics, winning the game 14-2. It was an incredible display of power hitting, with Nick Allen and Cristian Pache each having two strikeouts. The A’s could only muster up two runs, thanks to Seth Brown,” the tweet reads.
According to a report, Cairo has served as the White Sox’s acting manager for the past two years because coach Tony La Russa is continuing to sit out due to his health issues.
When asked about La Russa’s return, Cairo said he didn’t know anything.
“There’s nothing official, nothing that we know,” he said.
Cairo added that he keeps regular contact with La Russa. Regarding La Russa’s health, Cairo reported that he is well.
“We’re waiting to see. We don’t know yet. … I talk to him every day,” Cairo said. “He’s doing fine.”
Speaking about his experience as a coach, Cairo responded that he loves “the adrenaline.”
“I love the challenge (of managing),” he said. “I love the adrenaline. I love the butterflies that you get during the game. If he comes back, he’s the manager. I’m the bench coach.”
