Expert insight: Germany have already won Group E. The live betting question is now the second automatic place, where Ivory Coast need only avoid defeat against Curacao.
ATS.io expert verdicts
The sharp edge
Group E is no longer a group-winner market. Germany have done the job, with Deniz Undav’s late double against Ivory Coast turning a potential complication into a settled first-place finish. The best remaining angle is Ivory Coast qualification. They were minutes from taking something off Germany, already beat Ecuador, and now face a Curacao side that needed a historic goalkeeping performance to draw 0-0 with Ecuador. The danger is price: Ivory Coast are now extremely short to advance, so the better match angle is whether they cover the handicap or win with control in Philadelphia.
Final-day picture: Germany have won Group E, Ivory Coast qualify with a win or draw, while Ecuador and Curacao both need help as well as their own result.
Projected standings
Green = automatic qualification path. Amber = needs a final-day win and help, with the third-place wildcard still a possible route.
Group analysis
Group E has become a Germany procession at the top and a tense three-team fight beneath them. Germany beat Curacao 7-1 in Houston, then came from behind to beat Ivory Coast 2-1 in Toronto through two Deniz Undav goals off the bench. That combination of goal difference, head-to-head control and Ecuador’s failure to beat Curacao means Germany have already won the group.
Ivory Coast remain in the strongest position to join them automatically. The 1-0 win over Ecuador is now the defining result of the second-place race. Even after losing late to Germany, Emerse Fae’s side sit on three points and need only a draw against Curacao to finish second. A win would remove any third-place uncertainty and deliver Ivory Coast’s first ever World Cup knockout appearance.
Ecuador are the group’s major disappointment. They arrived with one of the best defensive records in qualifying, but after two matches they still have not scored. The 0-0 draw with Curacao was a damaging result, especially given the volume of pressure they created. They now need to beat a Germany team that may rotate, then hope the other result leaves room for either second place or a strong third-place finish.
Curacao are still alive because of Eloy Room. After the 7-1 loss to Germany, a 0-0 draw with Ecuador looked unlikely, but Room’s remarkable performance gave the tournament debutants their first World Cup point. The task is still enormous: Curacao must beat Ivory Coast and will likely need Ecuador not to beat Germany, unless there is a major goal-difference swing.

Current standings
Germany have won Group E and will finish first. Ivory Coast finish second with a win or draw against Curacao. Ecuador must beat Germany and hope the other match opens a route to second or a strong third-place finish. Curacao must beat Ivory Coast and likely need Ecuador not to beat Germany.

Best value
Ivory Coast to beat Curacao
-650
The price is short, but the game state is clear. Ivory Coast need only avoid defeat to finish second and have been competitive in both matches. Curacao’s draw with Ecuador was built on a historic goalkeeping performance rather than sustained control.
Match angle
Ecuador vs Germany over 2.5
market watch
Ecuador have to chase a win and Germany should rotate without losing attacking depth. Undav, Beier, Leweling and Woltemade give Nagelsmann enough fresh forward options to keep this open if Ecuador finally score.
Long shot
Curacao to qualify live
+1400
This is only for very small stakes or live trading. Curacao must beat Ivory Coast and need help from Germany, but Eloy Room’s performance against Ecuador proved they can drag a superior opponent into an uncomfortable game state.
Group E betting analysis
Germany have removed the outright market from the betting board. The combination of a 7-1 opener and Undav’s 94th-minute winner against Ivory Coast means Nagelsmann’s side are already group winners. The only betting question around Germany now is rotation: if key starters are protected, Ecuador’s moneyline becomes more attractive, but Germany’s bench has already been decisive in this group.
Ivory Coast are priced like the team in control because they are. They hold second place, they beat Ecuador head-to-head, and they face the weakest side in the group needing only a draw. The risk is that Curacao now know exactly what the game requires and can sit deep behind Room, Bacuna and a five-man back line. Ivory Coast should win, but the handicap is a tougher call than the moneyline.
Ecuador’s tournament has become a finishing problem. The defensive base is still there, but zero goals from two matches is a damaging return for a side that now must beat Germany. The third-place wildcard route remains possible with four points, but a draw against Germany probably leaves them stuck on two and needing too much help elsewhere.

🇩🇪Germany
Julian Nagelsmann · 4-2-3-1
Won Group E. Into the Round of 32
Won group
Team overview
Germany have done exactly what a favorite should do. The 7-1 win over Curacao gave them immediate control of the group, and the 2-1 comeback against Ivory Coast showed a much more useful tournament trait: bench impact and resilience. Deniz Undav scored twice as a substitute, including the stoppage-time winner, and has pushed himself into the centre-forward conversation even if Nagelsmann prefers him as a late weapon. Germany have already won the group, so the Ecuador match is now about managing legs, protecting key players and keeping rhythm before the knockouts. Nico Schlotterbeck is out, so Antonio Rudiger becomes more important in the defensive rotation.
Probable XI vs Ecuador: 4-2-3-1
Ratings
Strengths and weaknesses
Strengths
Undav has changed the group from the bench and gives Germany a direct finishing option if Havertz does not start quickly.
Germany have already won the group, which lets Nagelsmann control minutes before the knockouts.
The Musiala-Wirtz creative base has produced enough chance volume to overwhelm weaker opponents.
Weaknesses
Schlotterbeck’s injury reduces defensive flexibility.
Germany trailed Ivory Coast and still gave up transition chances, so the back line is not flawless.
Rotation can affect rhythm in a final group game where the result is no longer essential.
Model projection
🇪🇨Ecuador
Sebastian Beccacece · 3-5-2
1 point. Must beat Germany to stay alive
Out group win
Team overview
Ecuador’s tournament has gone from promising on paper to desperate in practice. They lost the key head-to-head against Ivory Coast, then failed to break down Curacao despite sustained pressure. The defensive structure remains strong, but two matches without a goal leaves Beccacece under real pressure. The Germany game is now simple: Ecuador need to win to have any realistic chance of advancing, and even then the Curacao vs Ivory Coast result could decide whether they finish second or fall into the third-place wildcard queue. Kendry Paez is suspended, so the attacking burden around Enner Valencia, Gonzalo Plata and the wide players grows even heavier.
Probable XI vs Germany: 3-5-2
Ratings
Strengths and weaknesses
Strengths
The Pacho-Hincapie defensive base is still good enough to keep Ecuador in a match against anyone.
Caicedo gives Ecuador the ball-winning and transition platform needed to unsettle a rotated Germany.
A win would put Ecuador on four points, which could still be enough for second or a strong third-place case.
Weaknesses
Ecuador have not scored in two World Cup matches.
Paez’s suspension removes a major creative option.
They no longer control their own automatic qualification path unless Curacao beat Ivory Coast.
Model projection
🇨🇮Ivory Coast
Emerse Fae · 4-3-3
3 points. Draw enough for second
Out group win
Team overview
Ivory Coast have not yet qualified, but they are in the driver’s seat. The win over Ecuador gave them the key head-to-head advantage, and they were close to taking a point off Germany before Undav’s late winner. Fae’s side led Germany through Franck Kessie and have shown enough attacking quality to justify their position. The job against Curacao is to avoid panic: a draw is enough for second, while a win confirms the first World Cup knockout appearance in Ivory Coast history. Wilfried Singo is an injury concern, so the back line may again lean on Kossounou and Agbadou.
Probable XI vs Curacao: 4-3-3
Ratings
Strengths and weaknesses
Strengths
A draw is enough, so Ivory Coast do not need to chase recklessly.
Amad, Diomande and Kessie give Fae multiple ways to break Curacao down.
They have already beaten Ecuador and led Germany, which validates the performance level.
Weaknesses
Singo’s fitness is a concern for defensive balance.
The late Germany loss showed they still need to manage closing phases better.
Curacao will likely sit deep, making patience and shot selection important.
Model projection
🇨🇼Curacao
Dick Advocaat · 5-4-1
First World Cup point after 0-0 vs Ecuador
Out group win
Team overview
Curacao’s 7-1 opener could have broken the tournament, but the response against Ecuador was outstanding. Eloy Room made a record 15 saves and delivered Curacao’s first World Cup point with a 0-0 draw. That result keeps the debutants alive, but the path is narrow. Curacao must beat Ivory Coast and probably need Germany to stop Ecuador winning. The shape is likely to stay compact, with Room protected by a back five and the Bacuna brothers asked to manage transition moments.
Probable XI vs Ivory Coast: 5-4-1
Ratings
Strengths and weaknesses
Strengths
Room’s Ecuador performance gives Curacao real belief.
The switch into a deeper, more compact shape made them much harder to break down.
Ivory Coast need only a draw, which may create nerves if Curacao can keep the game level.
Weaknesses
Curacao must win, but their best performance came from defending deep.
The -6 goal difference limits any route involving tie-breakers.
Ivory Coast have too much pace in wide areas if the match opens up.
