France and England meet on Saturday in the 2026 FIFA World Cup third-place match with both nations looking to finish the tournament on a positive note after difficult semifinal defeats. France fell 2-0 to Spain despite entering the match with one of the tournament's most dangerous attacks, while England surrendered a late lead in a 2-1 loss to Argentina. Although neither side reached the final, there is still plenty at stake, including a podium finish, prize money, and individual awards. Kylian Mbappe enters the match with 8 tournament goals as he continues his chase for the Golden Boot, while Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham remain among the tournament's top scorers.

France has been the more complete side throughout the tournament despite its semifinal setback. Didier Deschamps' squad continues to create quality scoring chances through Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, and Michael Olise, while Mike Maignan has remained one of the tournament's top goalkeepers. England showed tremendous character during its run to the semifinals, but the defensive lapses that appeared against Argentina are difficult to ignore. Reports leading into Saturday also suggest England is dealing with several tired players after an emotionally draining semifinal, giving France another edge.
Third-place matches are frequently more open than knockout contests because neither team is forced to protect a lead with a championship on the line. That could create additional scoring chances for both attacks. Even so, France appears better equipped to capitalize on those opportunities thanks to its pace on the wings and greater depth across the front line. Mbappe remains one of the tournament's most dangerous players and should find opportunities against an England defense that struggled to contain Argentina late in the semifinal.
Total Parlay Odds: +258
This parlay builds around the game script that appears most likely. France has earned favorite status after creating more dangerous attacking chances throughout the World Cup and should have a slight edge in midfield possession and transition play. Mbappe remains the focal point of the French attack with 8 goals entering the match and will have every reason to push for another scoring performance as he chases the Golden Boot.
Both teams have enough attacking quality to find the net. England still features Kane, Jude Bellingham, and an aggressive group capable of producing chances even after the disappointing semifinal defeat. Third-place matches also tend to produce more open soccer than knockout matches, making both teams scoring an attractive addition to the parlay.
France enters this match after its only disappointing performance of the tournament. Spain controlled possession in the semifinal and limited France's transition opportunities, resulting in a 2-0 victory. Even with that defeat, France remains one of the tournament leaders in goals scored, expected goals created, and overall attacking efficiency. Mbappe has once again demonstrated why he is one of the sport's elite finishers, while Dembele and Olise have consistently stretched opposing defenses.
England's route to the semifinals included several disciplined defensive performances before the heartbreaking loss to Argentina. The Three Lions grabbed an early advantage but could not withstand Argentina's late pressure, conceding twice during the closing stages. Manager Thomas Tuchel now faces the task of motivating his squad for one final match after missing out on a chance to play for the World Cup title.
France owns the edge in attacking depth entering this match. If Deschamps elects to rotate during the second half, his bench still offers players capable of changing the match, including the criminally underutilized Rayan Cherki. England has plenty of quality in its starting lineup, but fatigue and injuries could become factors if the match opens up during the final 30 minutes.
The individual matchup between Mbappe and England's back line may determine the outcome. His pace remains difficult for any defense to contain over 90 minutes, especially in transition. England will likely create opportunities of its own through Kane's movement and Bellingham's ability to arrive late into the penalty area, but France has been slightly more efficient in converting quality chances throughout the tournament.
Expect a competitive match with stretches of end-to-end action. England has enough talent to score, but France's greater attacking depth and the finishing ability of Mbappe give Les Bleus the edge. A 2-1 France victory is the most likely outcome, making France on the moneyline the strongest betting option, while both teams scoring offers additional value as a parlay piece.
