Leeds Positive, Everton Negative
Despite a loss to Brighton on the weekend, the vibe around Leeds to start the season has been overwhelmingly positive. Previously unbeaten, Leeds sit in fifth on seven points and will have to look at the match against Everton as a real opportunity to stake their claim as a top half of the table club.
Manager Jesse Marsch has the Leeds squad playing significantly better football than last season’s dreadful form and the club’s American additions in Tyler Adams and Brendan Aaronson are settling into the Premier League quite nicely. Seven points out of a possible twelve is a tremendous start for a club that was minutes away from relegation a few months ago and has built some nice momentum for the squad as the opening month of the season comes to an end.
On the other side of things, Everton’s August has been a disaster. Frank Lampard is feeling the hot seat as Everton have yet to win in the league. Worse for the Toffees, their fixture list has been fairly manageable with the season opener against Chelsea the only match against the ‘Big Six.’
That spells trouble for Lampard and Everton’s hopes of avoiding the panic of a relegation battle for a second straight season. A loss to Leeds could spell doom for Lampard’s managerial career and his time in Liverpool as the clock is already ticking on their hopes of returning to the safety of the top half of the league table.
Stale Toffees Attack
Everton’s biggest problem this season has been a lack of goals. Losing striker Richarlison to Tottenham and dealing with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury absence has been an impossible challenge for Lampard to solve, leading to an opening month devoid of a scoring output.
The Toffees have yet to score more than a single goal in a match for the month of August and it is hard to see that changing against a well organized Leeds squad. You aren’t winning many games in the Premier League without scoring multiple goals and Everton seem incapable of producing the type of attacking quality needed to find the back of the net enough times to secure three points.
Leeds The Best Bet
Given Everton’s woeful form to start the season and Leeds consistent performances to date, getting plus money to back the home side on the moneyline presents great value.
Leeds may be overrated in the American media due to the amount of Yanks in the squad, but at +115 odds at home to an Everton squad yet to win a match this season ‘America’s Club’ is the best bet on the Tuesday slate.
Take the plus money on Jesse March’s men to stick it to Frankie Lamps and his hapless Toffees in a Tuesday match clash of last year’s relegation survivors. If Everton lose, it may just be one of Lampard’s final matches in charge.
