The NHL Playoffs betting continues for at least one more game, as the Tampa Bay Lightning take on the Dallas Stars in Game 6 of the 2020 Stanley Cup Final.
The Lightning blew their first opportunity to clinch the Stanley Cup on Saturday night losing 3-2 in overtime of Game 5. The Stars want the trophy as much as Tampa, for sure, so we’ll see a tremendous battle Monday, September 28, in Game 6.
Therefore, we bring you the best betting pick along with the latest odds and team news for the Lightning versus Stars showdown in the NHL bubble.
The Lightning will miss Steven Stamkos, and Tampa’s captain is ruled out for the rest of the series. The Stars are without several players including goalie Ben Bishop and defenseman Stephen Johns, while centers Roope Hintz and Radek Faksa are doubtful to play Monday.
Tampa Bay is the bookies fave in this series, and the Lightning opened at -160 to win straight up on DraftKings. The Stars are +145 moneyline underdogs with a total of 5.0 goals.
What’s at Stake?
The Lightning have another chance to win their second Stanley Cup in franchise history and first since 2004. The Stars are a one-time Stanley Cup champs, too, waiting for the championship since 1999.
After a 4-1 defeat in the opener, the Lightning beat the Stars three times in a row. They won 3-2 in Game 2 and 5-2 in Game 3, while Game 4 saw overtime and a 5-4 Tampa’s victory this past Friday.
The teams played back-to-back Saturday, and the Stars pulled off an upset, outlasting the Lightning 3-2 in double overtime.
The Lightning outshot the Stars once again in Game 5 (41-33), and they also had seven hits more than Dallas (64-57), but it wasn’t enough to win the championship. Corey Perry scored a couple of goals including the game-winner 9:23 into the second overtime, and the Stars somehow found a way through.
Dallas was down 2-1 after 3:38 of play in the third period, but Joe Pavelski scored his third goal in the last two games to tie the clash and save the Stars’ season. Finally, I have to mention Tyler Seguin’s three assists, and the 28-year-old center had two dishes in Game 5.
Both goaltenders did a great job on Saturday. Anton Khudobin posted 39 saves and improved to 14-9 on the postseason. Andrei Vasilevskiy turned 30 shots aside and dropped to 17-7 with a 1.97 GAA.
If the Stars want to force Game 7, Anton Khudobin will have to put on another tremendous performance. The Lightning are arguably a much better offensive team than the Stars, while they also play some tough, physical defense this Stanley Cup.
I respect this Dallas team, as they work hard and play excellent defense. Anyway, I think they don’t deserve to win the championship this year, or should I say, the Lightning deserve it more, considering their displays during the 2020 Stanley Cup.
The Stars will lean on Anton Khudobin once more, waiting for their opportunities through counter-attacks. The Lightning should have another game with 30-plus shots easily, so I’m backing the Lightning to win the title in Game 6.
Tampa is 8-4 in its last 12 matchups with Dallas, while the over is 16-3-4 in the previous 23 encounters between the Lightning and Stars.
