San Jose Sharks vs St. Louis Blues Game 6 (STL Leads 3-2)
Money Line: San Jose+148/St. Louis-170
Puck Line: San Jose-160/St. Louis+163
The St. Louis Blues used a dominant performance in Game 5 to give them a chance to win the Western Conference at home in Game 6. St. Louis won 5-0 in what was perhaps their best game of this postseason.
The Blues got their first penalty shot goal in postseason history. It came in the second period and was scored by Vladimir Tarasenko. Jaden Schwartz picked up two goals in the third period to give him his second hat-trick this postseason. Schwartz is the first player with two hat-tricks in a single postseason since 2008 when Johan Franzen did it for Detroit.
Jordan Binnington got his first shutout of the postseason, making all 21 saves. The Blues won 57 percent of faceoffs, had eight power plays, and outshot the Sharks on goal 40-21, including 36-10 over the last two periods. Since the Game 3 controversial no-call on the hand pass that won the game for the Sharks, the Blues have responded with back-to-back wins. They now have a chance to move onto the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1970.
St. Louis was in last place in the NHL at the start of the 2019 calendar year. Now, they are just one win away from the Stanley Cup Finals. The last time they were in the finals in 1970, they lost to the Boston Bruins. If they make the Stanley Cup Finals this year, their opponent will again be the Bruins.
I expect St. Louis to close out this series tonight at home. Momentum is on their side, they are playing better hockey, and the Sharks are a little banged up. Binnington is coming off of his best game this postseason and should be able to put together another great game today. The Sharks will have trouble finding the net and the Blues will take a methodical win in Game 6 to get back to the Stanley Cup Finals.
