Carolina Hurricanes vs New York Islanders Game 2 (CAR Leads 1-0)
Money Line: Carolina+131/New York-151
Puck Line: Carolina-235/New York+195
Carolina won Game 1 just in the exact way most would have expected the final score to end up, 1-0. These two teams showed that this is certainly going to be a low-scoring series where the under should be on everyone’s radar each night. Each goalie in Game 1 made 31 saves, that one extra shot that Robin Lehner faced in OT proved to be the costly one that he couldn’t stop. Both teams were also 0-4 on power plays. The Islanders won 61% of faceoffs and were the more physical team with 44 hits to Carolina’s 38. I look for the Islanders to show they are the better team in this one and notch it up at one game apiece before heading to Carolina. Losing the first two at home in a series like this would be critical.

Colorado Avalanche vs San Jose Sharks Game 2 (SJS Leads 1-0)
Money Line: Colorado+125/San Jose-145
Puck Line: Colorado-215/San Jose+180
Just like in the first round against Calgary, the Avalanche were blown out on the scoreboard in Game 1. This time though, the Avs actually put together a good game, unlike the Calgary game. Anytime the Avs win 5o% or more of the faceoffs they should be contending in any game, as they are one of the worst faceoff teams in the league. Colorado went 1-3 on power plays to San Jose’s 0-1, also outhitting (29-26) and outshooting (28-27) the Sharks. The Avs scored in the first three minutes of the game and held a 2-1 lead midway through the second period before the Sharks took over and scored three more goals by the end of the period to take a 4-2 lead going into the third. An empty-net goal with 30 seconds left iced the game. It was a tale of two halves for the Avalanche in Game 1. If they play as they did in the first half of Game 1, they can pick up a win here an head home tied 1-1. However, if they play as they did in the second half of Game 1, this could be a short series for Colorado as they head home down 0-2 with San Jose in control of the series. I think the Avs rebound here and we got ourselves a good series brewing.
