Monday’s featured NHL betting pick breaks down a game between one of the NHL’s best teams and one of the league’s worst clubs in the Colorado Avalanche and host Philadelphia Flyers. The defending champion Avs pay a visit to the Flyers, who have won just once in their last 10 games and are quickly finding a home in the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings heading into this Avalanche vs Flyers matchup.
Avalanche vs Flyers betting odds lists the Avs as hefty -210 moneyline favorites but plus money can be found on the puck line where the Avs are +130 to cover the -1.5. Philly is +175 to earn a home upset over the defending Cup champs and the total is set at 5.5 goals.

Why Bet On The Avalanche:
✅ Colorado has had the Flyers number in recent years. The Avs are 5-1 in their last six meetings with Philadelphia,
✅ Not only are the Avs 5-1 in their last six meetings with the Flyers, they have beaten them handedly in all five victories. Colorado has covered the -1.5 puck line in each game as big scorelines have been common in Avs-Flyers games over the past few seasons.
✅ Philadelphia has lost by two or more goals in three of their last five games. Keeping things close against contending teams has been an issue for them as the Lightning, Penguins and Islanders all beat the Flyers convincingly while covering the -1.5 puck line over the past two weeks of play.

Colorado Avalanche
Colorado will hope to take a favorable matchup against the Flyers to snap a road trip slide that has seen them lose two of the last three, with both losses coming by way of a blowout. The Avs lost 5-0 to Winnipeg last Tuesday before losing 5-1 on Saturday to the Boston Bruins in a game many viewed as a potential Stanley Cup Finals matchup.
Despite the two road losses in the last seven days, road ice has been kind to the Avs so far this season. Colorado is 8-5 away from the Mile High City this season, a strong record given the high number of injuries they continue to deal with as a group. Arturri Lehkonen is the newest addition to an injury list that has Gabriel Landeskog and Bowen Byram on it as indefinite fixtures as the Avs are without a ton of high end talent presently.
The injury absences could be playing a role in the Avs inability to finish out close games. The defending Cup champs haven’t shown the mettle of a champion in one goal games this season, holding a losing record of 2-5-1 when a game is decided by a single goal.
Philadelphia Flyers
Like the Avs, the Flyers are one of the NHL’s most injured teams and are also without a fair number of experienced hands on their roster. Ryan Ellis is done for the year with a pelvis injury, Cam Atkinson is out until at least mid-December with an upper body injury, James van Riemsdyk is out for the same timeframe with a broken finger and Sean Couturier is out until mid-February with a back injury.
Those injuries have made life even more difficult for head coach John Tortorella in his mission to turnaround a franchise that hasn’t seen much success in the past few seasons. Things started promising to open the year but as the bodies have piled up on the injured list, so have the losses.
Close games have been a big issue for Philadelphia as their record could be a lot better if they were able to win some of their close games in overtime. The Flyers have lost five games in the extra frame or in the shootout this season, dropping five crucial points that could help them out in the standings.
