Why Bet On The Stars:
✅ Dallas has the special teams edge. Colorado may have the first ranked powerplay in the league (36.5%) but sit 24th with their penalty kill (75%). Meanwhile the Stars rank third in the league as a powerplay (30.2) and sixth in penalty killing (82.7).
✅ The Stars have won three of their last four against the Avs, enjoying some recent success over their division rivals in the Central.
✅ Colorado are still without a handful of key contributors. Until Bowen Byram, Gabriel Landeskog and others come back, the Avs should be considered as a different beast than the dominant cup winners from last year.

Colorado Avalanche
Despite missing key contributors, the Avalanche are still playing high level hockey and winning games on most nights. After some early season struggles, the Avs appear to have shaken off the Stanley Cup hangover and have won seven of their last ten. Keeping the heater going against Dallas would be huge as a regulation win would close the gap in the Central Division to just a point.
Cale Makar and Devon Toews have done their best to do the heavy lifting in the absence of Bowen Byram and Samuel Girard on the blueline. Makar and Toews have combined for five goals and 25 points along with 58 blocked shots. With a top defense pairing like that, the Avs can get away with some depth issues on the backend as Makar and Toews eat a lot of minutes at an elite level,
Alexandar Georgiev will start on Monday night and has been great in the net with a .930 save percentage and a 2.45 goals-against average. Georgiev’s elite puck stopping hasn’t bailed out the Avs on the penalty kill, where they are amongst the league’s worst at keeping the puck out down a skater.
Dallas Stars
Dallas sits atop the Central Division thanks to an offense that is keeping the lamp nice and red of late. The Stars have scored 20 goals in their last four outings, boosting their goals per game average to 3.94 goals per game.
The Stars are also playing sound defensive hockey on the other end, allowing only 2.72 goals per game. With a defense that holds onto leads built by a productive group of forward lines, it is no surprise the Stars lead the pack in their division at the moment.
Dallas has rarely been the site of a Stars loss this season, with the home team losing just twice so far this season at the American Airlines Center. Jake Oettinger is expected to get the start in goal and has been his usual solid self this season, holding a 7-2-1 record and a .927 save percentage. Goaltending fans will look forward to Monday night’s game as Oettinger and Georgiev are two of the best in the league and could be amongst the finalists for the Vezina at the end of the season.
